But the idea that he keeps asking her to be one thing because it's more comfortable for him is so real. I got told all the time by my mom not to talk so loud in public if I was discussing any part of my identity with her (i.e. talking about my girlfriend or my pronouns). And although I cry at the sequence where Nimona collapses into Ballister's arms, nothing gets me quite like Ambrosius saying "What if we've always been wrong." I think it's the perfect sentence. It sums up how I feel about conservative people trying to make us regress as if what we've always had as norms is correct. What if it was always wrong

Nimona is exactly what I felt like as a child. No matter how I codeswitched to the people around me, boys or girls, I never truly fit in or was accepted. Even my friends turned on me if we were around other kids. People will conform until their dying breath, truly. This movie makes me cry like no other. How Nimona absorbs all that hate from everyone until she begins to hate herself. And how it takes one person dissenting from everyone else and accepting her to actually change things.
