Just coming here to echo the point that last season we found out that The Frontman has won these games before in 2015, so he likely just recycled his reasons for joining the game from then! Feel like it's not really clarified enough.

His brother found the record from 2015 in the first season, the year where he won the games. He later became the front man as we can see in the series, so most likely his story about his wife and child was true, and that’s maybe why he previously entered the games. Unfortunately, his wife died so we can only guess his child did as well as (Also loving your reaction to this season!!)
