I remember the first time I watched this episode it made me cry. The scene of hilda realizing they have to leave because they are now like the giants of that area is so fascinating.

Love this show, so was a pleasant surprise to subscribe (for SU) and see you are already two episodes in! Hilda is not as deep as the other shows you have covered, but it is unfailingly charming! Fun fact (text from the Hilda wiki): "Luke Pearson received a proposal for a Hilda animated series from Silvergate through his mail. The proposal pitch was styled as a book from Hilda's satchel [...], even coming with a Trollberg library card and a small elf letter inside, as well as a wooden USB stick that contained the actual pitch." You can see a photo of that library book in an interview here: https://pictoplasma.com/interview/luke-pearson/

It is such a beautiful, cozy, (mostly) low stakes show. This has been on in the background when I'm cleaning or sleeping lately. Very soothing.
Amazon has a disappointingly small assortment of Twig plushies and the like, but I'm sure plenty of folk on Etsy have made them. You'll only live him more as the series progresses.
The girl you don't know the name of yet; My first impression of her from this episode... it could be the accent combined with her fastidious nature, but she reminded me of a certain young wizard from an IP we aren't supposed to talk about. I think you'll love the both of them.

That's right! Wow, Mosco's right about trying to keep track of all this stuff when you go so long between episodes. Thanks for the reminder.

The parallels between the giants and the humans and the humans and the elves is idk melancholic, it brought up a tear, but it wasn't exactly sad, except i guess for the leaving of the giants being effectively complete.

No you were correct, it was the mayor's cat. It's the first person she meets, he gives her the location of the prime minister in exchange for not letting the cat live in her hair, thus returning her to the mayor.

I love how Hilda (and Steven Universe, now that I think about it) are keen to give the audience a quiet moment now and then

The mayor's cat, who climbed up into Hilda's hair, was "very pregnant" according to the mayor. But the cat looked significantly thinner when she returned her.
I actually expected him to realize that and freak out last episode. So I'm glad that I wasn't wrong, and I was right.
Edit: Prime Minister, not mayor. Oops.
