2024-09-01 14:39:23 +0000 UTCFun fact, the toys Steven shows holo-Pearl in StSF are all references, starting from the left we have a mashup of Final Fantasy's Moogle and Pokemon's Pikachu, then a mashup of Gitaroo Man and Morrigan from Darkstalkers, then Gotta Go Fast (a badly drawn Sonic the Hedgehog that's been a meme for years now), and lastly, the Hero from RPG World, a webcomic by Rebecca Sugar's husband Ian JQ (and an homage to Claud Strife form Final Fantasy VII).

In this episode we learn that when a gem's body is badly damaged, she releases her physical form and retreats to her gem to regenerate. With those two pieces of lore we can come up with the question "Is Steven's Mom inside his gem?"

Further, the way Garnet and Amethyst react to the moment it happens. Onion is the embodiment of chaos. Best not to think too hard about it. The kid has layers (ha!). Each stranger than the last.

Thankfully it takes a little more than that to end a gem, they are tough. And I am fully on board with the donut dates, sounds amazing. I'm pansexual and getting to see you react to my favorite show is the best treat ever, even better than a donut <3

2024-08-08 20:52:53 +0000 UTClikewise, the rest of the pile is a real weird looking sonic, pikachu with a moogle pom on his head, and the guitar guy is, I think, a reference to gitaroo man. The screen where steven is naming the guys in onion trade is also an nes mega man stage select screen (complete with his eyes moving to look at the selected stage/guy and 8 bit music) and of course the console in stevens room is alternately an n64 and a gamecube. I also noticed a bottle of lon lon milk from zelda on the counter in a later episode I was watching today.

Rebecca Sugarβs husband (who also works on the show) use to write a webcomic called RPG World, which was a loose parody of JRPGs in general, Final Fantasy in specific, and FF7 in particular. That little dude who looks like Cloud from FF7 is the main character, Hero.
