FIRST TIME WATCHING Knives Out (2019)

Comments

This movie is a perfect little puzzle box. Infinitely rewatchable, so many little details that all line up. Particularly when you get into the deleted scenes, there's a lot of false leads that would have been interesting to follow but I think were rightly cut for the sake of efficient storytelling. I don't think the sequel quite lives up to the original, in that regard, but it's still very good.

I didnt know rhis gem exist until my brother told me. Cant believe i just recently found out about these movies. Please also watch the sequel "Glass Onion" it has a fun vibe and enough misteries.

Erna Gustiawati

This a great movie rewatch and pick out all the clues/ foreshadowing the second time round // including Harlan saying that Ransom couldn’t tell the difference between a prop knife and a real one and how Marta was the only who other than ransom that could beat him at go when she also ends beating him at his scheme

Cynthia RG

Still didn’t watch Glass Onions but I really loved Knives Out. I am like Trin, mystery movies “Who did it” are by far my favorites.

Kamanda Hickey

Will you be checking out the boys spin off show gen v

Sokeking

Rian Johnson the creator of this film also made a series called pokerface which is also really good

Harrison Davies

Knives Out - Glass Onion is a sequel of sorts, it only has the Daniel Craig Character but a whole new mystery and is really good you guys should react to it, keep up the good work

Harrison Davies

Wooo! you guys did it anyway! I commented thinking this film would be the film that was most suited to you guys from the entire poll list, was sad it narrowly missed out so thankyou!! can't wait to watch the reaction.

PhoenixReturns

Rian Johnson did a video after this movie came out breaking down parts of the film, and he gave up an industry secret that Apple will let you use iPhones for free, as long as the villain doesn't use one. Ransom is the only character who doesn't use an iPhone in the movie. (Once that secret was out, he changed things up, and if I recall, I'm pretty sure no one in Glass Onion had an iPhone but I could be remembering it wrong; but since he had told people that little trick of the trade, he made sure not to repeat it.)

Jeff K

This movie is so damn good. I have not yet watched the reaction so you probably mention it in there but just in case, I hope you watch Glass Onion as well. I think I might enjoy it even more than this one.

Jeff K

Yes… I think Rob read it wrong. She was asked how many hours a week she worked for him and she said, “I started at 15 (hours)… 👍🏼

This was a great watch-along and reaction. I really love this movie and the sequel, and I have no doubt that you will love the sequel too. A third movie has already been confirmed, though i think it's still in the writing phase, but netflix bought the license for 2 sequels after the release of the first movie, so there will at least be 3 total movies, and the director Rian Johnson has said he'd love to keep making more as long as he and Daniel Craig are having fun with it. I also love how Chris Evans, despite being known for playing a heroic character at this time, was actually "reverting back" to the kind of roles he had before he played Steve Rogers. It kind of confirmed to me that he was never a bad actor (He had been in a lot of not-so-great movies before marvel) but that his potential had been wasted with bad roles/writing.

I love that Benoit Blanc seems like a brilliant riff on the combo of Hercule Poirot and Columbo. Honestly, these are the same dysfunctional family & class dynamics were at that play in the great mysteries from the 1920s & 1930s. Only the servants in Christie's world weren't usually given a true voice or dimension. I like the turnabout here. (Not that Christie isn't the Queen of Mystery... but she certainly didn't identify with the working class.)

Octavia

Never seen this, happy to watch it alongside you

That randomizer had good taste. You guys should use it again sometime. Take the top 20 winners and randomize the final 4. Some great but often overlooked movies stand a better chance that way. Completely random.

Octavia

As a Registered Nurse, the thought of making a medication error is your worst nightmare! I felt Marta's fear in that moment...An anchor baby is the term used for what an illegal immigrant comes to the United States and gives birth, the baby is an automatic US citizen, and the baby's parents are safe from deportation....The 15 was the original hours were Marta's hours she was hired on for, and the family increased them.

Anthony Ancona

this was grate but personally i love the second one

Anthony Hempstead

Lol you did mishear a bit. Benoit Blanc asks Marta "How many hours a week were you paid to work?" and Marta said she "started at 15" meaning started at 15 hours a week and increased because Harlan needed a friend. Still, this is such and fun movie and well-loved for its spin on the classic murder mystery, who-dun-it genre. It's a bit of a disservice to call it a "Who-dun-it" because that could lead to a viewer potentially being disappointed when they realize pretty early on that Harlan really did slit his own throat, but it borrows a lot from the genre and still manages to unfold twists and turns that make the story that much more entertaining. The actors in this make it even better. Annoying as they are, the actors playing the Thrombey's make it so much fun to hate them and see Marta win. Although I would agree, despite asking Marta to renounce the heritance, Meg didn't do much wrong at all. Chris Evans as Ransom though is great. It is funny how his reputation as Captain America kinda puts a more suspicious light on his role in a movie like this so Ransom wasn't as much of a surprise as he might've been otherwise.

sierra's reaction corner

0:39:10 - Harlan is not thinking about the fact that a police cruiser or an ambulance might be near his house, in the neighborhood. And both carry anti-overdose medications. Getting medicine to him in 10 minutes is realistic.

Scarlett Monrow

This watch made me realize how American centric the messages were. Cuz MAN did it become instantly apparent that Marta was to be protected at all costs in this plot. A lot of the social commentary didn't seem to translate.

Anna

Felt like Trin and I were playing a boardgame together, LOVE IT!

This really revitalized the whodunit genre... by both abiding to the traditional form, while also slyly satirizing aspects of it.

Wendy Sparks

Yeah I was confused how that would be possible 😂 glad we still managed to figure it all out regardless lol

Benoit asked Marta how many hours she worked. She said when she was hired, she started at 15 a week, meaning 15 hours a week. She wasn't hired when she was 15 -- that doesn't make sense if she's a nurse.

Mike Dispo

No spoilers! 😂🥰

Take a Ticket

Yay!!! Was surprised this didnt get more votes!

Alvin Tsao

Oh wow... what a fantastic surprise! I love this movie way more than any of the poll winners. Thank you both for choosing it!

Wendy Sparks

What about Saturday?..will you be doing the same seeing thats the 30th?

Whatitdoo38

Running a random number generator felt safe on the final poll 😂 So the sequel is not called Knives Out 2?

Take a Ticket

Yes!!! So Hype to watch this with y'all 😃🍿💕

Danny Madrigal

You accidentally picked a pretty popular movie. There is a just as popular sequel: "Glass Onion".

Scarlett Monrow
