I think it's funny how you guys call Els mind travel the upside-down... The upside down is the other dimension. She is using her spying technique in this episode. If she focuses on a person she can find that person in whatever place they are at. The white noise that helps her concentrate is basically the blackness that surrounds whatever she is seeing.
