Buffy 7x9 Never Leave Me

We get a lot more info in this one, but I will definitely make my apologies known - I AM STILL VERY CONFUSED 🤣 I think it's very much an acceptable and most likely universal state of mind to be in when watching this story arc play out as it's not fully explained what is happening, just bits and pieces of this 1000 piece jigsaw puzzle.

Whatever is happening IS very entertaining, I'll say that! I both love it and hate it at the same time because I really don't like what is happening with poor Spike.

There are some great moments in this one with Bad Cop/Good Cop Xander and Anya, very funny. Gasp-worthy moments with Spike and his conversation with Buffy. And I think Andrew is coming after Xander's comedian crown.

Not The First calling Andrew “what’s-his-name”… hahaha

[Reposting from YouTube, pretty sure my comment got marked as spam, probably due to length lol] Honestly, you're understanding things better than you think you are. This is about to be very long-winded, but hopefully you know based on my past comments that I only mention previously-covered information. I think the best way to clear up most of your remaining confusion without risking spoilers is to simply review all the times up to this point that we've seen the First Evil taking the form of various characters: (Also, as we learned in this episode, these manifestations of the First are noncorporeal, meaning they can't interact with the physical world.) In 3x10 'Amends,' the First appears to Angel in the form of his past victims, including Jenny Calendar. At the very end of 7x01, the First appears to Spike in the form of villains from previous seasons (in reverse order), finally ending by transforming into Buffy. In 7x05, Spike is in the school basement speaking to 'Buffy,' who is being nice and comforting to him, and Spike seems relatively sane. Then we see another Buffy appear, who speaks curtly to him, and the original Buffy is now gone. Spike is talking like a crazy person again. I believe the 'nice' Buffy was actually the First, and we can be fairly sure the less-nice Buffy was really Buffy, because she was wearing the same clothes she wore to work that day. In 7x07 'Conversations with Dead People,' we see A LOT of the First. It appears as Warren and convinces Andrew to kill Jonathan. It appears as Cassie and tries to get Willow to either commit to stop using magic or end her own life. I will remain vague about what Dawn sees, but Dawn's theory (which she expressed to Willow in 7x08) is that maybe the ghost really WAS Joyce and the 'evil thing' (the First) was trying to stop Joyce from speaking with Dawn. Holden was really a vampire that Spike sired, but we now know that Spike was being triggered by the First to sire these people and has practically no memory of doing so, let alone the ability to control or stop it. I think you're fairly accurate when you say the First can disable Spike's chip, but I look at it more as the chip working the way it's supposed to. Spike has no *conscious* intent to hurt anyone, so the chip doesn't activate. It's basically like he's being possessed, as I see it anyway. He punched Xander (in 7x08) when he wasn't under the First's control, and the chip still hurt him. As for the previous episode, 7x08, the First appeared to Spike as Buffy and then as Spike himself, which you referred to as the evil Spike. To clarify, there is no evil Spike, just the First appearing to him, manipulating him, and possessing him. We also have 'Warren' and now 'Jonathan' manipulating Andrew. That's the First as well. So, all those physical acts of violence you suspected were committed by the 'evil Spike' were technically committed by Spike. By his body, anyway. The First is noncorporeal, so it's triggering Spike and taking over his mind. It makes sense that it made Spike target Andrew in this episode (7x09), because Andrew was starting to spill the beans to Anya about the seal, the same one that the First convinced him to spill Jonathan's blood onto (now opened with Spike's blood). I know you like to rewatch, so I recommend you rewatch all these episodes when you have time, including 'Amends' in season 3. Hopefully this will resolve most of what you were still confused about. Sorry this comment is so long, but I was careful not to provide any new information.

This is a great season to watch again right away - or if you want to save some time, maybe watch your YouTube edits. It's really fun to watch it all after you understand what's going on, especially if it's soon enough to remember how confused you were and all the things you theorized the first time through.

"Barking up the wrong asparagus!" :D

Totally agree. He had his funny moments before but it is more fleshed out here. "I met a vampire girl down in Mechico" always cracks me up for some reason...

I just love your reactions Jules!:-) You know, it might just be another musical, a more crappier one...:-) Yes, lots revealed here. You did remember The First episode from season 3 (Amends), so a re-watch of that might make things easier to understand. I love that you like all the callbacks. That is the writer Drew Goddard. He wrote this and the Anya episode (7x05). It was his first writing job and he was a huge Buffy fan, so that's why callbacks are kind of his trademark. He will be involved more in this season and he will also be a major part of Angel s5 (which makes that the best Angel season imo). He is one of the hottest writers in Hollywood now, you should check out more of his work outside the Buffyverse. Again, great reaction Jules!

He's--- Tucker's brother... :D

Chris Carman

Your confusion both confuses and amuses me! 😂 Tucker's brother had a good episode. If he keeps this up I may even bother to learn his name! What's going on with the principle? My principle never did things like that (or maybe he did!). Thanks for another great reaction and have yourself a lovely weekend Juliette 💜

Neil Hanson

YES! I'd say Andrew stood out to me in this episode as well. We have a good group of funny characters now!!

Speaking of happening, it's looking like the *Buffy reboot*--- may actually, finally occur. On Hulu. SMG has given *her approval.* This is the episode--- when Andrew finally started to grow on me. :) It is one odd phenomenon to chart, but hey--- right around here, far as I'm concerned, is when he finally became more than Tucker's brother... :D
