Buffy 7x2 Beneath You
Added 2024-12-27 20:00:11 +0000 UTCIs it too early to say I love season 7? Probably đ€Ł It just feels like "old times". With the High School, and solving mysteries as a group... I'm enjoying it VERY much and also super aware that this is the last season, so I'm also wanting to soak everything in and really enjoy it as much as possible.
The ending with Spike and Buffy was so beautifully done, and meaningful. Watching it back when editing (and I've also watched it again!) it really does mean so much. Spike was repulsed by his actions in Seeing Red, and I think that (among other things) was a huge reason he wanted his soul. I do hope that there is a way out of this madness for him, and he can recover as much as possible.

Of the entire series, this performance by James Marsters -- both coming unraveled after accidentally stabbing Ronnie, and that monologue at the end -- might just be the most outstanding solo-ish acting of the whole lot. It's remarkable, and I never get tired of re-watching it.

2024-12-29 20:04:28 +0000 UTCI have DVD copies, they just don't sync with Juliette's, so Ive gone with Disney Plus, which is what she's watching episodes on. It's a month by month prospect as to if we can afford it right now. I'm really hoping I can watch all the reactions as they're put up though.

Is it the very best of Buffy seasons, maybe not, although I would agrue that it is certainly one of the best. On the whole, I think you will find it to be a very satisfying final season.

2024-12-27 22:51:37 +0000 UTCHonestly, I didn't feel even remotely bad for Spike on my first viewing. I don't think that Spike got his soul with good intentions, but rather it was the only way that he thought that he had a chance to be with Buffy after what he did to her. In order to start feeling bad for Spike, I need him to convince me that he genuinely wants to atone for everything he did (not just what he did to Buffy). So far, I'm not even convinced that he truly understands the effect of what he did to Buffy because he immediately ran back to Sunnydale instead of giving Buffy time to heal first (even taunting her about it so she would punish him) and he let it slip that he has a soul, torturing Buffy to give her attacker another chance because she's a good person (he tried to hide it at first tbf, but revealing his secret after she rejected him doesn't look good). I won't comment on whether Spike convinces me in the future or not, but I certainly wasn't convinced as of this point in the show.

2024-12-27 21:57:07 +0000 UTCMy reading of the end of Season 6 was Spike very much wanted revenge on Buffy and the soul was not what he expected. He did some vile things, vampire things, and used the chip in is head as an excuse. Even though it brought out his heroism, he fought against it. When it emerged the resurrected Buffy and he were on a level playing field, as far as the chip was concerned, he acts as just another horrible killer. James Marsters showed such charismatic energy I think we forget that. I'm just about to dive into your latest review and looking forward to it. Marsters is about to give us a whole new take on Spike.
