Oooh what a great episode! I was a bit confused in the beginning, but decided to just go with it. Surely all would be explained.... And it was! Not what I was expecting though, which took my by surprise. I really love that twist, and there's kind of a side to it too for the Doctor, if I'm not being silly and reading too much into it.
I feel SO satisfied by the ending. It gave me such wonderful, feel good feelings 🥰
I hope you enjoy 💜

Have you seen Sherlock? There he is one of the villains and also fabulous. Well, and a lot of other shows and films as well.

The Doctor's actual words were key. Only one person in the universe hates me that much, " I'm rather afraid I have enough issues to have figured out who the Dreamlord was as soon as he said that. I always forget how good this episode is, coming as it does between two of my favourite Matt Smith stories.

The Doctor usually has different colors he goes between. 9 had a green shirt and a red shirt, 10 had a blue suit with red Chucks and a brown suit with white Chucks, and 11 has a blue bowtie & suspenders and a red bowtie & suspenders

Regardless of how Amy chose, I think we can all agree:
Toby Jones is the most underappreciated actor in time and space.

Oh Jules - one thing you can count on from a DW fan is a comment. A DW fan will talk at length, ad nauseum, about every aspect of the Who-niverse, from every angle, for hours and hours, at a moment's notice.
This is how I get rid of annoying people at my house.

This is the culmination of the Doctor “setting Amy straight” after he found out about the wedding. Vamps In Venice helped Amy & Rory but here the Doctor (thru the Dream Lord) really gets Amy to open her eyes and SEE Rory and her love for him.

Toby has a voice I'm sure you'll recognize. He's Dobby the house elf from Harry Potter!

Amy needed this! Thankfully it was just a dream, but she needed to lose Rory to realize how much she loves him. I think she always did, but she took him for granted. The Doctor has been in the back of her mind since she was a kid, and I think she sometimes feels he's the Superman to her Lois Lane.. Again, it's not that she didn't love Rory, but she just needed that proverbial slap across the face, and THIS was it!!

I think you should admit that 11 is "THE DOCTOR" after this episode. When I look at him I cant see matt smith there at all he is the doctor.

It is just so sad, when you think of it. All that stuff the Dream Lord was saying, the Doctor thinks about himself in that way. So negatively. He must hide it well.

Honestly, I can agree with that! Tennant was amazing, and he and Donna were SO GOOD! But Matt Smith.... he's really something, isn't he!! He's so different. I'm REALLY attached to him now 😅

Yeah The Doctor said to The Dream Lord "there's only one person in the universe who hates me as much as you", so it makes a lot of sense that it was actually himself. I feel like The Doctor having a large amount of self-loathing has been a constant part of his character throughout the modern series. You saw it even in Eccleston's early episodes with his guilt over wiping out all the Time Lords.
And like he said, he's over 900 years old, you undoubtedly build up a lot of regrets and negative thoughts over such a long life span, which gave that psychic pollen a lot to go off and attack them with.

This is where this season really starts to pick up for me. S5 is actually my favourite season as I love the Doctor's relationship with Amy, it's almost like a fairytale, but admittedly it does take a while to get going and for us to get used to it especially after David Tennant and his finale. Everything from here on out I love, even in S6 and 7 etc.

Right? Honestly, I think I like the episode more on repeat viewings, because it has a ton of those little details and makes a lot more sense.
Oh, also! I don't know how true this is because I've not paid attention, but I think I recall hearing once that the Doctor wears red bowties if in the episode he's in the future, and blue when he's in the past. Or the other way around, lol. Just a cute little wardrobe department thing.

He was in Captain America. Played a pretty good Nazi agent.

Yes, exactly right! When editing it, I did pick up on more than my first time watching. Such an interesting and well done episode. I know sometimes "it was just a dream" stories are overused, but this didn't feel anything like that. It was a new take (for me, anyway) on a dream story. I loved it!!

I think this is my first time seeing Toby, but he has a face that I recognise? It's an odd feeling... maybe I saw him in a dream 😜

When you rewatch the episode, there's a lot of great hints that both of the dreams are a) fake and b) the Doctor's. Of course he imagines Rory and Amy's life without him to be cripplingly dull and boring (and of course evil old people show up to make things interesting). The Dream Lord keeps pestering Amy to pick between the Doctor and Rory, and talking about how awful the Doctor is -- the Doctor in real life, meanwhile, dragged Rory onto the TARDIS just because he wanted Amy to pick him and stop crushing on the Doctor. And at the same time, in the Doctor's dream, Rory is more pathetic than normal: super uncool, wishing he was the doctor (even making him a doctor instead of a nurse, two entirely different career paths with zero overlap). Fake Leadworth also isn't a perfect match for Amy and her personality, which I think implies the Doctor invented it - if Amy had a part in the dream, it would be a little more interesting, yeah?

I loved this episode because its different and has a really simple but effective plot/gimmick
I must admit when I first watched it all those years ago that i didn't see the answer being none of the dreams were real and it all was fake
Also Toby Jones was the perfect pick for the dream Lord, such a great actor and played the part amazingly
