Unless it’s specifically part of Okinawan (Ryukyu kingdom) culture, it’s prob just generic Asian movie trope. Japanese funerals are a solemn affair. Everyone dresses in black. Cremate the dead, and use chopsticks to pass their bones around. This is the only acceptable time to pass something to another person using chopsticks. Dont pass food to a Japanese person using chopsticks. Very impolite. They also take the ashes home and leave some things like swords and beer near the urn to help the person on their journey to the afterlife. Takes them 7 days or so.

2022-11-08 00:36:49 +0000 UTCHere's how Cobra Kai could make marginally more sense: Johnny's Lawrence's stepdad, established as a Hollywood bigwig, sees Pumping Iron and throws down funding for a similar documentary following Johnny's path to his (3rd?) championship. But during filming, the director picks up on the drama between Johnny and this kid he's been bullying. Once Daniel wins, the project is re-edited to make Daniel the central subject. It's a hit with kids and permanently marries Reseda with Karate in the public eye.
