It feels odd coming back to drawing this after a month-long absence. Anyway, hurrah, we have hit triple-digits for this comic, so thank you very much to everyone who has funded this story over the past five years. I’m working on a separate thing to commemorate how long this comic has been going for, but I thought it’d be nice to have a call back to what the original story was going to be before this series evolved in a different direction.

The wheel-spinning will soon draw to a close now I’ve a definitive idea of where to take this series next. See? No more sitting and talking, and the series favourites are there right at the end of the page.

In all seriousness though, Albert’s ruminations illustrates my own multi-layered feelings… then again, this whole Kuroki spiel has been a sort of a confessional.

Anyway, I’m rather pleased at how much cleaner this page has turned out – no more walls of text like before, huzzah. And as a result, far fewer translation notes (listed below).

Please look forward to the ending of this saga and what follows, and as always thank you so much again to everyone who has helped support, and enjoyed, this series. For something I have spent half-a-decade working on, it hasn’t turned out too badly, has it?

“That book-clerk Michiru…”: Loosely based on something that actually happened in one of my past day jobs (I wasn’t the culprit nor was I fired), but is also a reference to a dramaI watched once. Though it’s hard to tell in black-and-white, Kuroki is wearing a shoshinsha mark 🔰 meaning he is a new employee.
“It was my wish to work for the 2nd Department of General Affairs”: Referring to Shomuni, one of the very first live-action Japanese comedies I’d ever seen. In short, the mid-to-late 90s series follows a rather eccentric group of women working at a multinational-trading company; their unscrupulous shenanigans and catty fights with the company secretaries often led to trouble but also saved the company multiple times. Bizarrely, the 2013 anniversary series (blandly re-titled Power Office Girls) was officially licensed for the USA, in which the mantle was officially passed onto a younger roster of actresses. Anyway, watching Shomuni left a big impression on me: it set up my sense of humour, and permanently solidified my love of watching Japanese live-action television shows to this day. Coincidentally, the final original series opening was Wish by ISM.
‘Ae L’a reads as ‘love’ and ‘fish’ in Hawaiian.
