Ladies of the 80’s: Catra (She-Ra Princess of Power) Full Size
Added 2024-06-07 10:27:55 +0000 UTCFinally! The next installment of my Ladies of the 80’s fan art series. I’ve had this sitting nearly complete on my iPad for weeks now but just couldn’t find the time to add the final renders until this morning.
Catra is often portrayed as She-Ra’s arch nemesis, and was one of the few villains from the original cartoon to actually come from the She-Ra toy line, as most of the evil Horde members were borrowed from Masters of the Universe. I wonder if there was any crossover between toy line purchases because of that? Did any little girls ask for Hordak or Mantenna or Modulok figures for She-Ra and her friends to fight?
And of course the best part of finishing one of these—getting to draw the next name! it’s a fairly deep cut (it may be challenging to find good reference images of her) and the first to come from a franchise I’ve already touched on once—sort of! Stay tuned!

She's got a striking design in this incarnation to be sure! That said, while I've not seen any of the newer She-Ra show (no Netflix) I think it's probably unfair to compare the two especially design wise as they're catered to different eras and different audiences. As for the writing, I'd have a hard time imagining anything being much worse than the original show. It was hard for me to watch when it aired and going back and watching them now is really painful. I think they were aiming for a way younger audience than even the He-Man show was, and coupled with the more adult character designs it really clashed, IMO.
