Doctor Who S1E08 Watch A Long

Hey Peaches! Sutekh is back, and the whole universe is on the brink. Can the Doctor, Ruby, and Mel remember all the good times long enough to pull victory out of the jaws of death? And also.....WTF is up with Mrs. Flood?!?

Thanks for being with us through our first season of reacting to Doctor Who. Can't wait for the next one!

Why are you calling it Season 1? Is that an American thing? It’s Season 14.

Yeah, a lot of people have made fun of that moment, but she's clearly using the pad to control the weaponry.

There was a thread throughout the season on the power of belief. While I don't particularly like the whole pointing thing, after a few rewatches I ended up liking how RTD wrote the plot and message with Ruby's mother. But I don't think we're getting the entire story with Ruby yet. We don't have an answer for the snow constantly appearing and the "hidden song." I doubt RTD would have added those details in just to explain it as "it's important because we think it's important." There might something else in Ruby's future that explains it without anything to do with her mother (ex. Clara in The Name of the Doctor).

I believe Ruby is coming back? I read that she had some family issues and had to take a season off.

I agree, episode falls apart when they justify her mom. I’m glad she got her reunion, that’s a great moment, but the meta rationale of her being special just falls flat, for me. Still, a strong DW finale all told.

My headcanon is that it was all powered by the time window. It loos through time, it has to be insanely powerful. The doctor said it was still stuck on rubys memories hence why it kept showing her how to solve the problems, it even showed her her lost memories of the prime minister timeline. The snow, song etc was the time window echoing back her memories/the vhs. Which doesn't feel too time wimey. Sutekhs presence could have also influenced this, his power bleeding onto the machine maybe when it exploded. Hence why the machine came back, and hence why Maestro said "how can a song have that much power, power like him". Add in some possible remembered tardis influence. Sutekh, the tardis and the window, that's a lot of power on that one night. All combined, that is what caused everything. As for the naming, the mother in reality probably left a little note or something. Or maybe just subconsciously wanted that name and coincidentally the church chose it (or time made them). The pointing was symbolism. Russell said his idea of her being shrouded was time hiding her from sutekh. Remember there were/are 3 mystery women. Mrs flood, susan triad, the mother. Them all being cosmic is a bit much. Flood is definitely cosmic. Susan was cosmic influenced. The mother, completely ordinary. p.s. the meta reason for it Russell has stated was two points of commentary. 1: was commentary on how fans come up with theories. We all were theorising the mother was a god or something. He predicted it, but He wasn't criticising this, but making a meta point about how she doesn't need to be a god to be special. Ruby was set up to be special... and IS still special. Thats his point. Doesnt mean he thinks the mystery cant be a god sometimes.. 2: He actually referenced star wars in his reasoning. He liked how in the last jedi rey was described as ordinary. No special background. But hated how in the rise of skywalker it was retconned to "shes a Palpatine".

I assume Rose wasnt going through her iPad she was controlling the weapons. Martha, Graham and Ryan, Yaz, Dan and Donna.2 all left on their own terms.
