Dev News

Hey all! Sorry it's been a while again, here's what's been going on.

Since the last dev news post, I've been working on another potentially huge feature for PTGI E13.

Performance is one of my highest priorities with SEUS PTGI, and I always try every little idea that comes to me that could promise performance gains. Especially because of the performance cost of the new E13 features, I've really been striving to find something that can offset this. This time, I've been working on extending the TAA (Temporal Anti-Aliasing) to be able to reconstruct a higher resolution image than what the internal render resolution is. The goal for this is to only render the image at half (per-axis) resolution internally, and then temporally reconstruct a full-resolution image.

For example, if you were running your game at 1080p, PTGI would only render internally at 540p, and then rely on temporal reconstruction to present a 1080p-like image. The absolute best-case scenario for this would be: little to no visual drop in quality, and 4x fewer pixels to shade. This is achieved by taking advantage of image redundancy/similarity across frames. For example, if a particular area of the world is rendered from a similar vantage point for 20 frames in a row, by the 20th frame, the temporal reconstruction has used information from the last 20 frames to reconstruct a high resolution, anti-aliased image.

As I said, this is an extension of TAA, and TAA works on the same principle of taking advantage of redundant areas of the screen. Many of you may know (and have noticed in PTGI) that TAA can have some issues with ghosting and temporal lag. This occurs essentially because we cannot have perfect knowledge of what image features are okay to reuse, and what features should be discarded. If we over-estimate discarding of history, we will get nasty flickering/jitter, and no AA. If we under-estimate, we'll get ghosting/streaking/temporal lag. TAA errs on the side of under-estimation in order to achieve a temporally stable and smooth image.

Without any additional tricks to improve the estimation of how much of the previous frame's information to use, extending TAA into this temporal reconstruction upscaling thingy (don't really know what to call it yet) makes these issues way worse (and it looks reeeally bad). So, I've been spending a lot of time trying to come up with new ways of rejecting information that we don't want to keep. This is quite a difficult problem!

I think I may have finally found a novel solution that can provide significant reduction in these artifacts! But because I've been working on it for so long, I can't really tell if I've gotten close enough to the best-case scenario (minimal visual artifacts), or if I've just gotten used to the new visual quirks/artifacts.

Because of this, I'm thinking about releasing a test version of PTGI which would basically just be E12 with this new "half resolution rendering" feature, just to really get a good idea of how it performs without the confusion of it being included with a bunch of new features. If most people see the performance gain as worth the slight drop in visual quality, then it'll be here to stay! And of course, it can always continue to be worked on and improved.

On the topic of performance gains, since that's the whole point of this new feature, just what are we talking about here? Well, half-resolution rendering means that we're rendering a quarter of the pixels, but the other work the graphics card is doing isn't being reduced. So, in practice, we don't see a perfect 4x improvement in frame-rate. But, when you're running the game at a resolution where most of the work is going into shading the pixels, you can get some crazy gains! In my testing, a speedup of 3x is very common, which is pretty amazing! Again, it depends on how much time your GPU is spending on pixel shading vs other parts of the graphics pipeline. But that could take someone from an unplayable 20 fps to a smooth 60 fps.

You can also look at it another way. Those who have been running PTGI at reduced resolution for performance reasons won't have to do so anymore, and may even still see a slight increase in frame rate!

Unfortunately, I can't really capture a proper preview of this feature, since stills wouldn't show much, and video compression would probably just hide what is visually relevent. Again, this is why I want to release a "E12 + half resolution rendering" preview version. Do you like this idea?

That's it for development news. I really am sorry it's been so long since the last release. I want you guys to know that I'm doing my absolute best, and speaking honestly, I can't fully blame the difficulty and complexity of these new features for the gap in releases. I don't like talking about my personal life, but you guys are here to support my work, and if something is affecting my work, I feel like you deserve to know.

I've talked about struggling with depression in the past, and it is something I still deal with. The past few months have been some of the most difficult I've ever had, and I'm sure many of you can relate. I'm an extremely emotionally motivated person, especially when it comes to my creative work. This can have the wonderful effect of having excitement turn into pure hyper-focus super brain-blast creativity explosions. Because of this, it is absolutely a gift, and SEUS wouldn't exist without it! But, it also gives depression what feels like unfair advantage to take away the things that are most important to me. As much as I hate to admit it for many reasons, I have to be honest with myself and with you and say that it does get in the way of my work. Again, I feel you deserve to know.

Some time soon I'd like to talk about some plans that I have for the future, but this post is way too long as it is! Thank you so much for your support and understanding!

Sorry about what you're going through. The experience you described is exactly the same for me. I'm incredibly emotional, and that's the only thing that motivates me. Sometimes I have a lot of passion, which gives me energy to put into a project, and sometimes I can't even get out of bed. You're the first person I know to go through something like what I'm going through (from what I've read, at least), and that makes me feel better. Not because I want other people to experience that, but just because it makes me feel less alone, I guess. Not much less, but still. Maybe this comment can do the same for others, even you. And for you to put yourself out there and share what you're going through is brave. Hope you feel better 💞

Lilou Haefner

What about it is a scam, and do you have evidence of it ?

im running it well over 100fps with the 2070s, max settings

ya dont buy anything from wish, its the biggest scam, i have the 2070s, and im getting well over 100 fps, all max settings

Can't find TAA anywhere in the settings on seus ptgi. Anyone know where it's located?

Tarek Al Helfi

I'm sorry to hear about your struggles at the end.. make sure you're eating healthy; it has a huge impact on mental health when you stay full on healthier foods. By healthy, I mean you can name and know all the ingredients in what you're consuming. Also, eat at proper times and on a schedule. If you do those things and get enough sleep every night it's more difficult to feel depressed. I have similar struggles with depression and these are the things that helped me most with combating depression, so felt like sharing. You are very talented and I wish nothing but the best for you. I can't wait to see E13!

Hello Sonic Éther! My name is Nycolas Wanathan, is 17 years old and I live in Brazil. For 3 years I've been wanting to reboot a movie that a Minecraft channel called Tazercraft (currently has 12 million subscribers), they released this movie in 2013, it's called "Herobrine A Lenda". It was quite successful and yielded up to 2 books. Nobody until today has done anything as big as what I am doing in relation to this film. I talked to them directly about it and they SUPPORTED THE IDEA! REALLY WANT TO SEE THIS REBOOT! Anyway, I will use your shaders, SEUS Renewed 1.0.1 or it would be Chocapic Shaders v8. But your Shaders ... is MAGNIFICENT! However ... in the film, a very striking thing about it, is the dense fog (like leaving the render distance in 2, in Minecraft without shaders). Chocapic Shaders v8 has an incredible fog! You have several options on how to leave it, you can leave it so dense that you can't even see the block you're standing on. Anyway, I really need a fog in a shaders, and your Shaders (SEUS Renewed 1.0.1), IS BEAUTIFUL, BUT it does not have the fog. So, straight to the point ... I wanted to ask you to help me exclusively with this project, this part. OBVIOUSLY I WILL PAY ANY PRICE. But Sonic, PLEASE, YOU ARE MY ONLY HOPE! Only you can save this big and unique project. Please, if you can help me, answer me, we will have a better contact so that we can talk more clearly about it. REPEAT: YOU are my ONLY HOPE and if necessary, I AM WILLING TO PAY for this to be possible. So, Sonic? = D

Can you add PLN currency option when buying??? Because i think patreon doesn't have auto converter, or just say what dollars cuz there's for example: USA dollar, Australia dollar.

I'm not getting my rewards quite yet, are there any terms that I don't know about?

Torch isn't a full block whereas a sea lantern is. That'd be my guess at least

Stop if you want to mate " NP"

I think the tier descriptions are pretty clear. Stone tier says "No more annoying ads to download **Release** versions of SEUS". PTGI is not a release, it's still experimental, release versions are available to anyone for free anyway. Now if you read about the Gold tier you can see "Access to Experimental Development Archives (includes SEUS PTGI)" listed as a perk, which, in case it wasn't obvious enough, that should make it clear that PTGI is an experimental version. In any case, last time I checked charge upfront was disabled on this patreon, so if you feel you haven't received what you expected, you can simply unsubscribe before the billing date and you will have paid nothing. However, going straight into accusations like you did is not only rude, but also doesn't actually help fix anything. If you think the tier descriptions could be rewritten to be more clear, please feel free to state how. Finally, if you're short on budget, feel free to wait until there is an actual release of PTGI, since then it will probably be made free for everyone.

can i ask what's the difference between torch and sea lantern rendering?

Ice2670

Yo why did you have the audacity to call out the creator for "lying" just because you can't simply take two seconds to look a little more in depth into what you're paying for. FYI that only means you get ad free downloads for released versions of SEUS. This is not SEUS, this is SEUS PTGI. SEUS PTGI is not a released version, it is in development and experimental. The $10 Subscription tells you that you get access to the experimental archives, and literally says SEUS PTGI in the title in parenthesis...

Ian McAlindon

You should practice reading comprehension homie. The ad-free downloads at 1$ is for released versions of SEUS and is clearly stated. SEUS PTGI is still in development and is included with the experimental development archives at 10$.

yo why did you lie about the subscription prices? you said ad free downloads for $1 and then when i go to download ptgi it says i needa pay $10 what a fucking rip off

play on version 1.14.4 not the preview versions for 1.16 because optifine is not optimized for it and generally runs slower than 1.14.4 if you want more mod selection and even better performance play on 1.12.2. (1.12 has the added benefit of having tons of mod support some mods event help increase performance) you can also youtube how to optimize windows for gaming and it will most likely help you get a couple of more frames. if your are using a custom texture pack it will also run slower I lose about 50-70 percent of my frames when running a really high-res texture pack.

Robin

There's something wrong with ur gpu. Or you just bought it on wish.com

Rafael

Yikes, should definitely be getting roughly 70 fps with that GPU. I suppose first I would ask if your setup is in fact working and runs other games well. What resolution are you using the shader on? What's your render distance set to? Have you messed with any of the shader settings or using a resource pack with it? If your PC works, you play at 1080p with a respectable render distance, and havent messed with settings then I'm honestly pretty clueless

Ian McAlindon

anyone know how to get more then 12 frames? running a 2070s. new to pc gaming, thanks for the help

While yes, it is true that we as patrons must make the choice to support him, and Sonic himself is not technically obligated to give us anything more than shader downloads whenever he sees fit, there are inevitably going to be those of us that remain patient and subscribed regardless because we understand how much work goes into what he does, we understand depression is a bitch, and we love his work and support him unconditionally. Myself as well as potentially 6,700 people who are in this boat. I simply believe that I've been patient enough to speak for all of us when I say that it must at least be addressed that updates to this page, information wise, or activity in the comment sections from Sonic (or anyone he has/can hire given his income, which again I hate to factor in but it's the truth) could easily be more abundant. Now yes there are some nastily impatient , whiny, and even rude people, likely young children, who populate these comment sections, but I most humbly aim not to speak for them, but those of us who are patient and loyal. At the end of the day, I love the guy, his works are masterpieces, and I am in no place to tell the man what he can and cannot do, but I feel it necessary to at least shed some light on this issue, but again, in the most humble manner possible. I like to think I speak for all of us when I say it'd be nice to be a part of this process more and to be at least a little more informed than we are currently

Ian McAlindon

A lot of people have been complaining that he hasn't released an update in a long time. Based on his current patreon number, he's making 600k a year from his patrons. If it bothers you that there's no update and he's making money anyway, you can protest it by unsubscribing from his patreon until an update releases. He's under no obligation to release an update on a schedule that is convenient for you, just the same as you're under no obligation to donate to him on a monthly basis. If you're upset about it, show him by unsubscribing temporarily. Otherwise there is no reason to keep commenting and complaining.

KPhoenix

Can you make E13 compatible with 1.16 please?

Trentindo 64

It's been 4 months now... no E13

Andrew Keim

Assuming these comments all stay up, then I must say I sincerely apologize for any accusation I made if they were in fact deleted automatically for being too long. I’ll keep those comments there to make sense of the one I did get to post. I wish my very first one would have stayed as I spent over a half an hour writing it to ensure I explain all the ins and outs of how I (as well as many of us) feel about the state of this page. And ensuring that it comes across as understanding and forgiving, where as my shorter one seems to come across as more brash and ignorant. But I just want to raise awareness about this and am now too lazy and tired to delete all of these and type out what I initially wanted to say into multiple comments to avoid them being filtered out lol

Ian McAlindon

In case the page does in fact do that, as simply put as I can in just one short paragraph: I never wanted to make this comment, I hate that by making it shorter I have less space to explain I'm not intending to be intrusive or a dick in any way, but I've been patient and so have many others who want to say this but haven't, I understand this is a long process, I understand you're battling depression, I have no ill will towards you and this is your shader and your page to do with what you like. Fact of the matter is this page is not getting the attention it deserves. I hate to bring it up, but theres money that can be utilized to help you manage social media better or help you handle tedious tasks in working on PTGI if you don't already do that and are open to it. We love what you do, we want to be part of it more <3

Ian McAlindon

Not claiming this to be the case, maybe the page filters out long comments for spam avoidance, but just throwing it out there

Ian McAlindon

I was being nice about it in the comments but if Sonic or any moderator's of this page that he may have are doing that, that's low key really fucked up...

Ian McAlindon

Okay why are my long, carefully typed comments addressing the lack of attention this page is getting being removed.....

Ian McAlindon

Because that simply makes the image lower resolution and blurry. He is talking about essentially recreating what Nvidia's DLSS does, which renders an image at a low resolution, but then uses AI to then go in and enhance the image to make it look like say a 1080p image, while only using a the computational power needed to render a 720p image. Or at least something along those lines

Ian McAlindon

Why release E12 + half resolution rendering if you can just choose render scale in optifine shader menu?

Robin

Hey i have suggestion for seus ptgi e13 Yellow Light=Golden block purpule light=Crying Obsidian

hey i have suggsetion for seus ptgi 13

He is..

Ian McAlindon

Hasn't been released yet.

Please make seus ptgi e13

Yes please! I would love a half res update.

shibler

where is ptgi e13? I cannot find where to download it, im gold.

"Again, this is why I want to release a "E12 + half resolution rendering" preview version. Do you like this idea?" Yes! I would definitely be interested in trying this out!

Hello Sonic, I have some issues with SEUS PTGI E11 and E12, is there a way we can privately talk and you can help me fix the issues?

Papa Bless

Been tough lately for sure... Believe it or not these trying times will pass. Your work really is fantastic and no rush on updates. Human beings need time to de-stress. Hope you feel better soon, we do care!

Not until Optifine has a stable release

KPhoenix

Keep it up brother " it has been said before ...You're doing God s works ...

It's not a scam. He's been releasing updates pretty frequently up until this year where he's stated before that he's been going through some personal things. That being said, that doesn't mean it's okay to be taking our money without at least weekly updates. He's not obligated to release anything at a certain time but half a year is pretty ridiculous. Personal problems do not mean that our responsibilities are put on hold.

Jaedn Thomas

lmao this is one of the greatest scams of all time

Will the E13 Shader work on version 1.16.1?

Can we get another update? It has been a month since the last dev update and almost half a year since ptgi12....

Jaedn Thomas

I am extremely psyched to see the new half rendering update you have got in the works. It’s gonna be revolutionary! Take all the time you need, it’s gonna be amazing. And relax all you need, you got it man. You can get through anything 💪💪

All shaders use optifine and optifine isn't on 1.16 yet. It is verry unlikely for PTGI to split from optifine

Waity5

When I first read this I thought about Nvidia's DLSS 2.0 maybe you can get in touch with one of there software engineers im sure that they would find your project super interesting and might even offer a few words of advice.

Robin

merhabalar ben size üye oldum fakat minecrafta halen daha nasıl yapacağımı bilmiyorum eğer yapamazsam iptal etmek istiyorum

ŞAFAK AĞLAR

Any chance of POM capabilities being added to the shader? I realize that it wouldn't be able to interact directly with the ray traced lighting, but I think the trade-off of added perceived depth to surfaces would be worth it.

Adahop

Best of luck on your project! Cant wait to try out the temporal reconstruction feature.

ada0436 (discord)

So is there anyway to get you enhancements to work with 1.16?

Kane Hodder

Since it's been awhile since you posted this, I think it's time...Here are free long distance hugs. HUG!

Leslie Butcher

No, check out the About section

It will be E12.5 due to only having the new TAA feature and not all of the Features planned for E13 but there is no estimate of time to release.

Mitchell Stamp

So will you Release e13 the next few days?

GulliUlli

Does PTGI Shader uses RT Cores in RTX 2060~2080ti?

mckite

In E13 could you possibly make the skyboxes change to their vanilla versions when you enter the Nether and the End and change back when you leave?

Trentindo 64

That sounds like good idea to release an E12 + new rendering technique version. :)

Depression is something I struggle with too man not sure how to help you beside telling you that having a purpose in life and motivation to go after something you want to accomplish really helps to get rid of it for a while. also watching motivational speeches when you wake up in the morning helped me for a bit as well as trying something called a dopamine fast (I failed at that one but ive heard great things for those who have the will to complete one you can find more information by just youtubing the word dopamine fast).

Robin

Honestly didn't realize how impressive this is until you compare it to other raytracing shaders even goes head to head with bedrock rtx and wins in certain situations mainly in shadows, color accuracy, contrast gamma, and how good the gi tracing works (most of the time). Looks more realistic Imo but bedrocks de-noising shader is something to admire (though I understand they can expend a lot more resources to the denoising and raytracing because of the rt cores so I am not surpirsed).

Robin

Its the long term game and this man has created so much joy in my life that 10 bucks a month for a man to want to do his thing is fine with me. I hope hes doing well in these times :)

Patrick Carpenter

This dude has been paid at least $100,000 for being inactive between posts. He has not given any updates or anything for 2 months, and he still got paid 100 thousand dollars🤦‍♂️

Its not exactly like he's working an 8 hour shift down at the nearest store, give him a break

I know he is struggling with depression but, job is a job.

it'd be best if you wouldn't usher him to release E13, as he's struggling with depression it might make it worse, and it'd probably just make him work slower

As he has stated before, you can just subscribe to the patreon whenever there is a release. You don’t have to stay subscribed in between releases. Custom shader packs for Minecraft of this caliber are incredibly complex and tough. The test version will come, when it’s ready.

BugEyes

we have been waiting so long for the test version of SEUS PTGI E13 when will it be here

can you post the test version already? Its been almost two weeks, which seems like you're just waiting to squeeze money out of people.

doubt it

Waity5

is this going to have per pixel lighting

Will E13 work on OSX?

Jean-Luc Coelho

E12 + half resolution rendering! Great! Go ahead!

Thank you for all the work you do. This sounds like a revolutionary step forward and I would be absolutely up for using a test version on P12. You got this!

whnvr

You are really incredible, I would love to see a test version, hope you will be determinated and fight your depression

1. Depression is a motherfucker. Sometimes you gotta take it day by day. At the same time, you don't want to get burned out. Take breaks, take a day off, hell, take a vacation. 6,500 supporters and $53k a month should afford you some quality R&R. Part of the job is taking care of you. 2. I think I speak for the rest of us when we say that we're just happy to get any bits you want to throw at us. If you need to release a test build, release the test build. You don't need our permission, this is *your* sandbox, my dude. We are here to support you.

Jeremy Tilden

Hey brother, I really appreciate your hard work. Your shaders look amazing and really would love to play with them. Unfortunately my primary machine is a Mac, and due to no fault of yours, your shaders simply don't run on my machine, so I'm going to have to cancel my membership to the project. That said, I just wanted to drop you a line before I go and say how much I appreciate your dedication and passion for this project. And I really feel you about how hard these past few months have been with the social distancing requirements. I'm not someone who gets depressed in general, and I have been unbelievably demotivated lately, so I understand completely. I don't have much else to offer in that realm, other than just the reassurance and solidarity that comes from knowing you're not alone in your struggle. Thanks for opening up about it man. I hope you find sources of revitalization that can help get you feeling better. You got this dude. Best wishes, and keep killing it! -M.

Really excited to see all the upcoming features and would definitely like a test release to play with!

This will sound like a weird (hey me too), but I as well struggle with Bipolar Depression, it always makes feel less alone in my struggles when I find someone else who has dealt with it/continues to. And a Minecraft RT Shaderpack Patreon is the last place I expected to see that! I hope you continue to do well, and keep enjoying Minecraft and all the cool things Sonic Ether does!

BugEyes

Can’t wait and am very excited for these new features and releases. I follow your work closely, I’m as technical games artist, working with very similar things, like custom temporal upscaling solutions, all the way to doing material shader code. So your work is incredibly interesting, seeing how you take Minecraft and bend it, to fit in features that are usually only present in very high end real-time render engines. Keep up the great work, I deal with Bipolar Depression myself (not sure if that’s what is affecting you, but I can somewhat understand where you are coming from), and it has affected my work, the biggest thing to remember, is that you shouldn’t feel guilty, or as if you’re doing something wrong, when depression limits your productivity. Please focus on yourself when you need to. This whole community loves your work, and you’re incredibly talented. Much love, and wishing you the best!

BugEyes

Test version would be GREAT!

Also I'm very excited for some decent FPS in Vivecraft. ;)

Leslie Butcher

Trut Sounds good too.

Tenger Kortel

Thank you for the update, and the E12+ release would be really cool. Take care of yourself!

You had been quiet for awhile, and I was getting worried about you. We're here to support you, and support your work too. What you've done is amazing! Keep up the good work, but look after yourself first tho. :)

Leslie Butcher

do the test version

I would be very excited to see the half rendering beta. One of my biggest issues with Minecraft shaders has always been the low performance that make shaders borderline unplayable at higher resolutions. Could the FPS we could expect be similar to shader settings at 0.5x render?

Ruben Svensson

Hey, we are here for the shader, but there is no shader if you are not around. S.E., if you need anything I am pretty sure most of the people that are here would try to help out, if we can. Don't overwork yourself, don't stress, and make what you want, when you want. If you are having a shitty day, try to see if you can tell us about it. IF you are comfortable with that. If you would be able to set a goal for update posts once a month, we as supporters would have some info to go on, and if the need for help would arise, some of us would help however we can. I've been there myself, and it's hard. Never let anyone but yourself tell you any different.

Janno Sinclair BuzzBazz

Let's test that out :3 I'm so hyped for the per pixel emission thing though.

Depends on your definition of good FPS, I get about 40 on my 2080

Take care of yourself, we support you in what decisions you make. Would like to make a side comment about the shaders. When it rains it looks beautiful however in the snow biome i dont see the snow flakes falling. Would you be able to add this into the next shader? It will look gorgeous with your shaders!

why not include it as an option ?

aura

yes a 1.15.2 optifine compatability is my wish too :(

Goodluck! and stay safe

yes i would like to have a "E12 + half resolution rendering" version + it would be fine having 1.15.2 optifine compatability

Don't feel bad about the loss productivity due to depression. Just continue to take care of yourself and do what you need to help with your mental health that's all anyone can ask. It's a tough time in the world at the moment; hope you are keeping safe and well.

SnowTheBard

Trying every little idea in your work is right, because productivity is the main thing! Take your time!

VitAnyaNaked

Yeah I think a test version would do wonders in the diagnostic realm; you'd get decent amount of feedback on discord alone, and with so many kinds of hardware out there it might uncover various things.

DudeRyan1000

If the DLSS-Substitute thing you are suggesting does end out working well, could we potentially see some of the limitations of PTGI get weeded back? IE things like the Path Tracing cutoff happening before the render distance cutoff, entity reflections.etc?

Ian McCabe

I like the idea of a test version, especially if there's an opportunity to help get you some valuable diagnostic data from across your user base. I don't recall if existing PTGI has a "phone home" feature but I can imagine being able to enable logging during a run and then being able to send that log to you via email or something more sophisticated. I'm not sure how much cloud infrastructure you already have setup but I think a test version is potentially a win for both you and your users.

Is a 3800x with a 2080 non TI strong enough to run with the realistic texture pack, and still get good fps? I’ve been running it in vanilla and the fps is about 90-120 at 1440 for the most part barring rain. Also what are some good shader settings for the lighting and shadows. Anyway thanks for all you do, keep up the great work!!!

Stephen M. Robinson

A test version would be great!

I'd be happy to help test. I'm looking forward to the performance improvements as I want to get a ratraced shader working in vr.

Bill Baran

Always down for a test version! That's why we're are here. We are here for you!!!! Not anything else. ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️♥️

Patrick Carpenter

Would it be possible to have the temporal reconstruction upscaling feature as a shader option? As in people could choose either to use that method or switch to the old method? If that's possible, then it's a no-brainer that it should be included. The more choice the user has, the better.

Quin

Is your upscaling thingy similar to Invidia’s dlss? And is that where the inspiration comes from? I know they have some crazy AI stuff going on, but the performance benefits of their upscaling technique are insane on the official RTX for Bedrock Edition

I also would love a test version. But hey don't worry about the time you need to take! We can wait haha

David Chick

What you describe here Cody sounds a lot like bipolar depression. You are a gifted, highly intelligent person with high sensitivity and emotionality, and are prone to bouts of depression and hyper-excitability. I can totally relate as I'm really close to what you describe and can understand what you're going through. I've been better for some years now, all I can say is this: you're a brave dude facing difficult challenges, never feel guilty if you're feeling like you're stuck and not as productive sometimes.

HardTop

This would be awesome to release a test version!

"temporal reconstruction upscaling thingy" - isn't it basically temporal superresolution(aka TSR)?

I'm not sure if this is aplicable, but I've found that using VR realy helps with the "stuck at home" thing. Even though my computer is fairly mid-ranged, just trying stuff like MineCraft in VR with E12 is very enjoyable!

Waity5

Any sign of a release date? or just how long roughly?

I have been playing Minecraft for around 3-3 and a half months now, maybe more, maybe less, I don’t remember when I started honestly. When I started, and a big reason for WHY I started playing, was your shaders. Even with vanilla MC textures, your shaders make everything look like a scene from a movie. Add a texture pack on top of that, especially one like Realism Mats, and it’s almost like you haven’t left reality. I had a HUGE stigma about MC for the longest time because of its blocky design and what I thought was a ‘Childish’ atmosphere. Boy was I wrong. I stepped back and took a look at just how beautiful The game could be as a whole and it blew me away. Then I decided to find a shader and resource pack combo that made it that much better. Your shaders immediately drew me in and I haven’t stopped using them as much as I possibly can. Combined with Realism Mats, I was blown away at the shear beauty they brought to the game. Thank you so much for your effort, keep it up man! I feel like the addition of the new feature to E12 is an awesome idea, if only to get some new eyes on it! We are all super excited for the next release, but also keep your health in mind bud! We are here for you if/when you need. Don’t be afraid to reach out!

Just take your time man. We're all here to love and support you! <3

Yep, it's basically my take on what DLSS tries to achieve.

please make this a feature ive been using a 1440p monitor and going down to 1080p makes everything blurry in minecraft this will make the shader way more useablle for actuall gameplay

Since this new half-resolution rendering feature actually frees up texture memory that could potentially be used for new features, likely the way to disable it would involve switching a setting and then setting your Render Quality to 2x, so that the additional texture memory is still available.

Don't worry if you're taking things slow at the moment. It's important to take care of yourself and if the shaders come out a month later because of that, so be it. Looking forward to it :)

Don't be afraid to take time off for yourself. Your mental well being is important. I know I sound like my corporate bosses, but it really is true especially if you're stuck at home feeling like you are obligated to work. I've been taking a week off every couple months and it really does have a positive effect on my outlook and productivity. Anyway, great work as always!

Hey Sonic Ether. Look I'm not sure if you read these comments, but I'm using these shaders, and I have to say that they have brought me some real joy. Currently, I'm doing a Minecraft Summer Camp with kids online, and I've been taking screenshots for a parent showcase. The results are incredible, and honestly, that's because of you. I want to thank you for the hard work that you're doing that you don't necessarily hear all of the time. One major downside of the digital age is that it limits you seeing the actual impact of your work, but believe me, it's huge! So, thank you from the bottom of my heart, and if you ever need someone to talk to hit me up. We support what you do. james@coderkids.com

So basically this is your version of Nvidia's DLSS technology? That's awesome, man. Can't wait!

Current situation doesn't help with depression at all. Take it easy man, keep it up just to try and take your mind off things with coding. I'm fortunate to have been working through the current situation, and it's a god send cos if I wasn't busy I probably wouldn't be here right now, either that or drugged to eyeballs on antidepressants. Been following you for years now, and even though I don't play MC anymore, it's still good to see you sticking to it through everything.

That idea sounds like a great one, to show how one of the new performance-improving features would help e12 while still working on e13. Also, I understand the feelings man, I've been going through it too recently. Keep it up, this is some awesome work.

For those of us with more powerful GPUs, will we have the option to disable the half-resolution rendering if it does become a full feature in later releases of PTGI?

Boden Matthews

I like the idea! Do it!
