[Download] SEUS PTGI E8 Release!
Added 2019-07-06 06:23:22 +0000 UTC
SEUS PTGI E8 is here, along with some exciting new additions and improvements!
First of all, E8 has an entirely new water and underwater rendering system! Unfortunately this new feature causes incompatibility with Minecraft 1.12 until the developer of OptiFine ports back newer features that this relies on. If you want to read more about this new feature, you can check this dev news post: https://www.patreon.com/posts/seus-ptgi-e8-dev-27746705
As I’ve said before, my long-term goal for SEUS PTGI is for it to be enjoyable for actual survival gameplay, and this update brings SEUS PTGI a lot closer to that goal. There’s a new option for fixing all GI light leaks while in caves, a new option for dynamic held light emission (only works for items you’re holding, not other players or entities), and a lot of other fixes and improvements.
Also, a big improvement has been made to the diffuse GI filter that allows for much better preservation of contact shadows.
With all of these new features, expect a slight overall performance drop in this release. Know that I’ll be working on optimizing these new features for the next release.
Here’s the changelog:
- Minecraft 1.14.3 + OptiFine HD U F1 compatibility
- Significant diffuse GI filter improvements, better contact shadows, less blobby/noisy lighting overall
- Fixed weird lighting bug that happened when the player crossed a world coordinate that is a power of two (128, 256, 512, etc)
- Land atmospheric scattering has been restored (for nice distance fog)
- Water/Underwater rendering completely redesigned
- Physically-based light absorption (blue tint) through water
- Caustics (visible directly and in reflections)
- Underwater godrays/volumetric lighting with caustics influence
- Water casts “caustics” shadows, instead of just being applied on any surface behind water
- Colored shadows from stained glass
- Fixed blue ice and stripped wood not writing to the GI voxel volume
- Enchanted weapons and armor now display properly (not as solid purple)
- Campfire and lanterns emit GI
- Fixed light emitted by lava being way too dim
- Added option “Full Cave GI Leak Fix” in “Raytracing Options” that prevents all GI light leaks while in caves. Read the tooltip for more information
- Fixed weird damaged block rendering
- Fixed wrong screen-space GI tracing intensity
- Added “Dynamic Held Light” option, to enable held lights emitting light into the scene (in Lighting & Shadows Options, on by default). For now, any held item only emits torch-colored lighting
- Removed “RAIN_SPLASH_BILATERAL” option, it’s always enabled now and achieved in a cheaper way
- Added “Sunlight Intensity” option (in Lighting & Shadows Options)
- Fixed problem where half of custom skyboxes wouldn’t render
- Forced vignette overlay to be disabled
- Fixed carpets not on top of a solid block writing as a solid block for the GI voxel volume. (used to cause broken lighting)
- Implemented night vision status effect
- Implemented blindness status effect
- Added options for changing which channel is used for specular smoothness and metalness (in Surface Options)
- Added option for interpreting specular texture smoothness as roughness instead (in Surface Options)
- Added “Post Sharpening” option (in Post-Processing Settings), adds sharpening to the image before it’s presented, can help if you play at less than 1.0x Render Quality
- Added “Motion Blur HQ” option (in Post-Processing Settings), for higher quality motion blur
- Added “Motion Blur Intensity” option (in Post-Processing Settings)
PLEASE READ THE FOLLOWING REQUIREMENTS FOR USING THIS SHADER PACK!
- Minecraft 1.13.2 or 1.14.3 (1.12 compatibility isn’t possible until OptiFine for 1.12 gets an update)
- OptiFine HD U E7 or newer
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Alternate Blocks: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Details > Trees: Fancy or Fast (Smart may break lighting)
- Options > Video Settings > Quality > Natural Textures: OFF
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Shadow Quality: 1x
- Options > Video Settings > Shaders > Old Lighting : DEFAULT
- Resource packs with custom block models may cause issues
Some of the currently known issues are as follows:
- Being underwater in ravines/caves shows some light leaking, and “glowing” water fog. This is unavoidable currently.
- Some artifacts on edges of water shadows (will improve in the future)
- "Disco Floor" flickering artifact mostly seen in reflections (the new Secondary GI Samples option can help with this)
- Secondary GI bounces (2nd bounce and onward) can take a while to adapt to lighting changes
- Blocks which are not a full-sized cube in the world aren't considered properly in lighting and reflections (causes artifacts with half slabs, stairs, and the like)
- Issues with the rendering of semi-transparent/translucent materials
AN IMPORTANT NOTE ON GRAPHICS DRIVER ISSUES AND GPU COMPATIBILITY:
Since different GPUs can compile shaders differently than others, you may experience compile errors (causes "[Shaders] Error: Invalid program..." messages to appear in the in-game chat).
If you experience compile errors and you're using an NVIDIA GPU, you can help me fix them by following the steps on this page, in the "How to Report a Compile Error" drop-down section and sending me the log!
Compatibility with AMD GPUs is not possible at the moment.
Compatibility with Intel GPUs is not possible at all!

2019-08-26 19:04:54 +0000 UTCdoes your texture pack have the 2 texture files with _n and _s behind it. example dirt.png will need dirt_s.png and dirt_n.png for 3d parallax and surface reflecting to work.

2019-08-10 23:01:06 +0000 UTCSorry but it looks like crap on my GTX 1080 and that at 20 FPS! Does it require an RTX to actually have the graphic fidelity as seen in hodilton videos and run at a playable framerate? If so, I just wasted $10 on this. Shaders from 8 years ago looked better.

Ricco
2019-08-01 17:21:58 +0000 UTCUse OptiFine without forge. When you downloaded OptiFine, open the OptiFine jar file and it should open the OptiFine installer. And then you can use OptiFine without the use of forge on 1.14.X. And yes, this means you can't use it with forge mods.

2019-07-30 20:25:05 +0000 UTCSo I have the latest Optifine installed, and this latest PTGI E8. I've set all the graphic settings mentioned in the post, but I'm experiencing some issues that others don't seem to be having, who are using the same texturepack & shaders. For one, none of my weather particles seem to work, even though they are set to on/full. No rain, no snow. Other particles like rain splashes, fire and smoke all work. Another is very bad flickering with nametags. It will flicker black, like the geometry is z-fighting with itself. And lastly, I'm seeing issues with reflectivity and wetness. I'll see some random blocks that look like they have water on them, when they don't. Likewise some things like water seen through glass, look different than my friend sees. Again, I have the same texture resource pack and this same PTGI E8 update this friend, who does not experience these issues.
Joshua Stubbles
2019-07-29 23:08:36 +0000 UTCI have the same issue. Weather effects seem to not be rendering for me. Rain/Snow don't show up. Water splash particles work, so does smoke.

2019-07-13 15:17:06 +0000 UTCdumb question, how do I enable pom andspecular on this pack? kinda new to this version.

2019-07-13 14:14:53 +0000 UTCHi sonic, I had a quick question for you! I was wondering how i could edit the POM of your pack? because while using the realistico pack the blocks are slightly textured, they are not as bummpy (i guess is what i can call it) as id like them to. Thanks!

2019-07-13 06:36:16 +0000 UTCincredible job as always. I hope you continue to polish and improve this shader. I noticed that when underwater the sky is black. I wonder if that can be fixed? One other thing. This isn't a bug but more of a idea/thought. Water is very difficult to see when it is by itself in a cave or some kind of base display. This isn't an issue when the water is stationary (it looks quite nice having clear pools of water), however, it can be pretty weird when the water is flowing. I wonder if you can implement a way to give water more colour/appearance if it is in fact flowing. perhaps, the closer the water block gets to the final 'flow level' the more frothy it can get. And this can be the same for water flowing straight down? Just an idea. Your work is amazing.
Ben Cav
2019-07-12 05:12:47 +0000 UTCAlthough the caustics are obviously tiled, it kinda fits with the aesthetic of the game. Everything else in the game is tiled. It just kinda logically fits. In any case, this compromise is definitely worth it for getting this effect back into the game.

2019-07-11 23:23:40 +0000 UTCHi! just downloaded this shader pack and it looks amazing!! for some reason torches i place down do not produce light. If im holding it, it works just fine, but if i place it and switch to different item, everything goes dark, but i can still see the torch. It's as if the torch is lit up, but the light isn't being reflected by anything else. any ideas of how to fix?

2019-07-11 22:01:09 +0000 UTCHey friend absolutely adore this work. When I'm underwater and I look up, there is a black circle constantly over my head thst blocks the view of the world immediately above. It kinda looks like perhaps the player's head is being reflected back on the underside of the water surface, as I see fish reflected on the "ceiling" when underwater. I'm not sure if this is really the source of the big black circle or not. However maybe you could turn off reflecting the player model underwater so we can look straight up and see the world above. Thanks again for your amazing work ❤️❤️❤️

2019-07-11 03:15:18 +0000 UTCthere is a bug when you look at a body of water, the blocks of land under the trees reflect the waves. Also, with the option "specular texture smoothness as roughness", you should tell the game which blocks can reflect something or not because the leaves of the trees reflect the landscape when this option is activated. Otherwise it is a remarkable job.

2019-07-10 12:42:14 +0000 UTCDo you think it would be possible to add an option to increase the AO? I think it is sorely lacking between the blocks! It would add a lot of volume. It's just missing for me. Continue your great work.

2019-07-09 14:11:29 +0000 UTCJust downloaded for the first time and I'm impressed. I have noticed a few things though, End rods don't illuminate at all (which is kinda disappointing because they're my favorite light source) nor do Sea Pickles. Also the smoke from campfires doesn't seem to illuminate properly, appearing very bright at night. awesome work overall though, totally worth it.

2019-07-09 04:10:23 +0000 UTChave not looked too much into the details but I have some ideas for further improvement, like surface reflection when it rains on the sides of the blocks and not just on top. I'll get back when I notice something up. Running on 1.14.3 and most of the issues I've had while playing such as dynamic lighting and new light sources to the game, even though it is not patched for 1.14.3, have been resolved.

2019-07-07 03:23:13 +0000 UTComg, great update! thank you for adding the lighting with a torch or other light source in your hand. Much appreciated. Looks like End rods and flaming arrows still need it. :-) The end also shows a blue sky, not sure if there is a work around for that. My dude, keep up the great work! I will support ya as much as I can.

2019-07-07 03:22:51 +0000 UTCFor some reason my minecraft is refusing to utilize my graphics card and is using intel HD graphics, are any other people experiencing this issue? I thought it was due to the shader but i think optifine might be causing it and i already added javaw to the nvidia control panel.

2019-07-06 23:21:59 +0000 UTCMy entire screen is covered by all the items in the game. Just the 2d displays from them as if I have a menu open. Only happens when I turn on this shader but not ptgi 7

2019-07-06 22:48:48 +0000 UTCFor some reason, the End Rod doesn't emit light unless I'm far away. Is this a bug that still needs worked out, or is it me? If it is me, does anyone know how to fix it?

2019-07-06 20:02:04 +0000 UTCOkay, I love this update, but there's just one problem. Whenever i'm underwater, I look up and see this huge black void above me. Is that normal? If not, does anybody know how I could fix it?

2019-07-06 16:58:54 +0000 UTCHoly crap, this is so cool! Thanks for the update :D There is so much glass in our world that still renders completely broken, but when that is fixed I think I'll start to use SEUS again full time!

2019-07-06 15:10:12 +0000 UTCThere's a shader setting that you can turn that off.

2019-07-06 14:05:25 +0000 UTCThanks for all the work on this release! Very much looking forward to testing the new dynamic lighting, hoping it will help ease the difficulty of being able to see clearly when branch mining.

2019-07-06 14:05:05 +0000 UTCholy crap, the water changes are amazing! the lighting is gorgeous! Excellent job. For some reason textures of objects seen through water are all mixed up though... when I go under water and look up, the textures are jumbled up images of different textures (like objects which are not even in the scene - like grass blocks look like dispensers etc). But it's still all gorgeous.. and Minecraft is currently one of the prettiest games I own right now (strangely).

2019-07-06 13:56:42 +0000 UTCJust a quick suggestion for your next version: have colored shadows also change the color of raytraced light, like having glowstone covered by glass in a dark environment doesn't change the color.

2019-07-06 13:51:09 +0000 UTCThe "Dynamic Lighting Option" is Optifine, not his shaders. SEUS disables all normal Minecraft lighting. You have to go into shader options and turn on "Dynamic Held Light"

2019-07-06 13:49:44 +0000 UTCI cant get iron blocks to reflect light using the vanilla normals renewed can you help please? I even have fully raytraced reflections on and the resolution is on 16 aswell

2019-07-06 11:36:05 +0000 UTCI'm loving the underwater changes. It's a fantastic improvement over the old system, and 1.14 support is excellent! Not to be that guy (always asking for something else), but: Do you have any idea if/when AMD compatibility might be a thing? Looking at AMD's new 5700 series, but MC is one of my main games, so don't want to lose compatibility. Should I just bite the bullet and stay NVIDIA?

2019-07-06 11:27:19 +0000 UTCHi, I just have a question. My torch is not luminous in my hand even I set dynamic lighting to fast or fancy when using your shaders (inclusing seus ptgi 6, 7) but works find without shader or with other shaders like continuum 2.0.2. Is there any way to fix this problem?

2019-07-06 10:26:34 +0000 UTCLittle thing that annoys me. The redstone lamp emmits light even though its not powered and if it is the difference is very minor

2019-07-06 09:08:45 +0000 UTCHey guys, what resource packs supporting normal and specular maps (preferably vanilla style) do you recommend for 1.14? I tried Vanilla PBR but I don't quite like the look.

2019-07-06 07:44:40 +0000 UTCI typically only support independent progressive news media outlets. It’s time to support indie devs now too. I work in film post production and am aware of the benefits of physical renders for realism. As long as I can also pay my mortgage, I’ll be here, SE.
