Pic 67: Finding a basic hair style for Rachel

Last week I was playing around with new models for some of the characters in the SITA Redux game that I am working on. I've been breaking down the current game to its basics and haven't started making new images yet.
Meaning there is plenty of time to play with the models, and I want to start with "basic" Rachel. The plot is that Rachel is secretly a supermodel, but she is not supposed to look like one when you meet her, she is just a plain nerdy looking college student in comfortable clothes and low maintenance hair. Currently her hair is french braids (which in reality probably isn't all that low maintenance) but I came up with 6 alternatives:
1. Above is messy ponytail hair, like the one I showed last week but with strawberry blonde color.
2. This is a popular hairstyle used in a lot of games based on Katniss Eberdeen from the Hunger Games movies. It consists of a single long braid that is tied off to the side. Using the strawberry blonde color again.
3. Here is another ponytail option. Less volume than the first style. with a more red brown color. I like the look, but this is an older style which is why the shininess is so uneven. I'd have to tinker a bit more.
4. This is a no braid / no ponytail option, just long straight hair flowing in the back. This is more of a "dirty blonde" color, might look better a little darker. The biggest weakness is the lack of bangs.
5. Classic french braids looking better with more advance texturing and classic brunette coloring. I've been tinkering with the game the last couple of weeks, and I still like the looks. of the french braids.
6. Long hair with short braids. This is the hair I used in the first part of Hopepunk City, but with the reddish brown color instead of the strawberry blonde color used in HC. All of these are long hair, because when she gets into supermodel mode she needs to have long hair, but the most important aspect of the hair is that it has to look good on her face because 95% of the Rachel images are Rachel facing you, which is why all these pictures are portraits.

I'm very much starting to lean in the direction of french braids, and not because of nostalgia. I think nostalgia is over used these days, and SITA was never popular enough to become a source of nostalgia. But another factor to consider is "novelty". I picked the DMR Ella model because at the time she was the #1 model in use for Victoria 4. She looks like Angelina Jolie, Scarlett Johansson and Jessica Alba mixed together, making her the perfect "Supermodel". She looks like every other sexy 3D character in 2010. The french braids was used because it had the exact opposite effect. Nobody puts characters in french braids, in fact they still don't. It's too retro and old fashioned. And that is what makes it stand out. If I was in a room with all 6 of the above Rachels, the one in french braids would be the one I want to talk to first. I think ponytail Rachel (#3) is going to be seen in the game too in a rather interesting subplot I am planning.
