Enabling Cookies- Part 1

A heroic weregarurumon is sent out to rescue another digimon in a data-logged part of the digital world, only to discover that enabling cookies while browsing can really start to weigh you down. Enjoy!

**************

A weregarurumon— whose tamer referred to him as Gary— had been tasked with exploring a digital region; there had been reports back at the terminal of Gary's home site that this particularly verdant and lush region was now flooded, weighing digimon down and putting them at risk of drowning into a mass of digital code. As a big, powerful hunter with a loyalty to his fellow digimon, Gary was a natural choice to go in, make a report on the strange events dragging the digital region down, and save as many digimon as he could.

Gary set out at once, leaving the safety of his home terminal and then out to the troubled region; it was hovering near a series of what Gary understood to be a second-rate shopping sites, usually rich for traffic, which meant the digital region represented itself as an overly lush, overgrown jungle. As soon as the lupine digimon stepped into it, he let out a yelp as his paw sank into the digital jungle's muck nearly up to his knee.

"What the—?" he gasped, the white and blue wolf of a digital monster holding out his muscular arms to keep his balance. He scanned the region around the jungle— as far as he looked, he couldn't see any solid ground; it was all the half-mud, flood waters as far as he could see. It looked like the mother of all typhoons had slammed into the region, flooding the entire jungle. But he stopped, frowning as he looked around, sniffing the air. There was a particular smell in the air, something he had never experienced except out in the human world. It smelled sweet, though he couldn't exactly place it. He had definitely smelled it before, however.

Gary paused to run his hand over his long ears and spines running down his back; working through this muck was going to be a nightmare, but if even one digimon was stranded out here, he couldn't live with himself if he left them behind.

"Hello? Hello!" the weregarurumon cupped his clawed hands over his muzzle. "If you need help, start calling out! I'm here to rescue you!"

He didn't hear anything, making him growl in frustration. Trudging through the muck all around the jungle, batting away vines and working around felled trees, Gary could feel his eye start to twitch with frustration. Whatever the substance he was trying to force his way through was, it was slowing him down tremendously.

"Hello? Anyone out there?"

Gary gasped, his ears perking up. "Hey! Hi! This is Gary, I'm here to rescue you! Keep calling out, I'll follow the sound of your voice!" He followed the far off voice— it had a certain quality he could almost pinpoint, possibly a guilmon. The sweet scent he had first detected when he dropped in was getting stronger, but he couldn't spot the source of it. He grew frustrated with how slow he was moving, and with a snarl and snap of his jaws with knife-like teeth, he belched out a ball of blue Fox Fire at the muck to see if he could just delete it— and to his shock, it just grew harder.

"What?" Gary gasped, digging his claws into the now crumbling, packed-in earth. "Are you kidding? What is this stuff?" Snarling and growling, he continued onwards, until at last he found a set of steps and could finally pull himself out of the muck. The Data Center for the region was designed to look like a fallen temple, with vine-choked walls, ancient designs and murals, and crumbling statues. What stuck out to him, however, were the monster sized piles of boxes everywhere, spilling over one another, stacked higher than some of the trees in the jungle.

"Data packets…" He muttered to himself, the wolf craning his neck to see the top of them.

"Hello? Hey! I-is that Jerry? The rescue guy?"

"Uhm, that's Gary," the weregarurumon sniffed the air, moving to the half-buried center of the temple. "And yeah, I'm a rescue worker with the main terminal. I'm smelling…" He sniffed the air. "A guilmon?"

"Uh, yeah, just call me Gil!" The other digimon's voice echoed from inside the temple's buried inner sanctum. "I've been stuck here for days!"

"Don't worry, I'm a weregarurumon, got claws like rubies and a hero's build!" He flexed his muscular arm, patting a powerful bicep and tensing his claws. "I can have you out of there in no time!"

"Oh, thank goodness…" Gil sighed with relief.

The powerful weregarurumon started digging, kicking and throwing the massive piles of data packets. "Keep talking so I know I'm getting close," Gary said. "How'd this even happen?"

"Oh," Gil scoffed ruefully. "I kept telling my tamer that this was going to happen! We're trying to keep this corner of the digital world safe and free, but he's got this… shopping habit. Keeps buying all these rare collectibles off of a lot of dark web sites. I told him to watch his data and information, but now here we are— he never cleared his cache, and then the data packets just… spiralled out of control."

"So, why can't he clear his cache?"

"Virus!" Gil replied. "It completely fried his computer! Until he gets a new one set up, I'm stuck here on my own."

"Well, not anymore," Gary said, smiling tightly as he continued to scoop up boxes of data packets and tossing them aside. "We'll get you out of there in no time!"

Hours passed, and after non-stop, back-breaking work, throwing the piles of data packets free, but as he panted and his muscles ached, the huge wolf sank down against the temple wall, panting as he looked around and saw that the temple was just as submerged as it was when he started.

"Oh, you gotta be kidding me…" He groaned.

"Hey, uh…" Gil called up. "Not to complain about your valiant rescue, but… it's been a couple of hours and I'm a little concerned I may not be in here by myself… that virus might be around, still."

"Look, mon, I'm trying, here!" Gary snarled, banging his fist against the stone wall. "Ugh, I might have to call in for help…" He picked up one of the data packets, a box-shaped megabyte of information. With a snarl of frustration, the lupine monster threw it against the trunk of a huge tree. As it hit, the box burst, spilling its contents— and the weregarurumon instantly sat up. His nose twitched; the data packets were the source of the smell! Several small, round, brown disks were scattered all over the place. He picked one up, sniffing it; the sweet smell was almost overwhelming, making his eyes roll back. He let out a groan, and before he knew what was happening, he bit into it. Suddenly, he remembered— small, crumbly pastries they made in the human world.

"What… the data packets are cookies?"

"Yeah, what'd you think they were?" Gil shouted up from the deep hole he was buried in. "Humans use them to remember little bits of information on the sites they use."

"They use cookies for that?" Gary gasped, picking up another one. Absent-mindedly, he popped another one into his mouth, savoring the flavor for a moment. "Hm…" He looked around at all the boxes. "I think I have a faster way to get you out of there!" He picked up another box, licking his lips. "You know what people say, work smarter, not harder…"

He could feel some sharp electric shock that was like cinnamon, and the data was dense like chocolate on his tongue. It was enough for more than just the temple walls to finally collapse; any sense of restraint about this new plan melted, and Gary began tearing apart the boxes and eating the cookies by the fistful. He could feel the data settling into his body, and eventually, he started to feel the strain on his form, those tight abs starting to push out— that happened sometimes when he downloaded data too fast. Even so, a content groan bubbled up from his chest as he ate, the taste of these cookies enthralling him. He didn’t just want more, he needed more.

The more he gorged himself, devouring entire piles of data packets, his body began reforming itself to hold the vast amount of digital mass. His cheeks puffed out with cookie crumbs as Gary began to lumber slowly towards a new pile of cookie boxes, tearing open new boxes and then picking them clean as he gulped down more of the sugary treats. His body was already beginning to puff out more, his belly pushing out and then sagging lower and lower as more and more cookies all vanished down his gullet. His fingers grew thicker than sausage links until even his claws felt fatter. Wheezing a bit from the effort, he shuffled laboriously from pile to pile, eagerly wedging more down his gut in some mad bid to quell the hunger he felt. Some small part of him knew this was probably getting out of control, but at that point it was being shouted down by the roar of his gelatinous paunch and the heroic desire to save the guilmon.

The wolf-like digimon began plodding slowly toward the biggest pile of all still dwarfing the temple, but each step was agonizingly heavy. His gut was spilling to the ground, brushing over the jungle underbrush while his thunder thighs rubbed together behind the apron of lard and split the heavy denim of his jeans. The flabby sacks of adipose that made up his chest sagged atop his belly while his broad rump jiggled and swayed with each heavy impact of his feet. Trying to maneuver around the temple ruins to reach more cookies was a struggle, Gary unable to reach around his swollen belly and chest.

A stroke of genius came to him as the weregarurumon decided that he’d just give up on reaching with his arms. Heaving himself forward he sprawled on his belly, wobbling and gurgling before he managed to tip the pile of cookies over. He tilted his head up, halfway sinking into his extra chins as he opened his hungry maw, snapping cookies up as they rained down. Sweet data danced over his tongue, eyes rolling as instinct held tight on him. Rolls of blubber were building up on his back, love handles squishing on each other as he groaned. A thick tire of fat ringed his head, chins and neck rolls merging as he started snapping up the last of the cookies he could reach. The tank of his belly churned noisily as he began to digest his enormous cookie download binge, slowly lifting him up from his prize as his legs kicked helplessly, feet unable to touch the ground while his arms barely managed to wrap against the hefty swell of his moobs, fingers sinking into fat.

A heavy belch sent his body rippling, the mountain of 'mon utterly trapped by his own

blubber as he rolled back onto his enormous rear. His claws brushed at his chest as he gurgled and hiccuped, licking his lips clean as his head sank against the ring of fat surrounding it. His feet wiggled a little, searching for the ground, his legs broader than the trees around him.

"Gah… Hah… heh…" Gary gulped for air, licking his chops. "Gil! C-can you get out?"

Out from the massive crater the piles of data packets had left behind, a slightly shivering red guilmon pulled himself out, his jaw dropping and eyes going wide as he looked up at the enormous weregarurumon. "Oh my… Were you always this big?!"

"No," Gary growled, even as his claws slaked against his enormous belly. "Why didn't you try eating yourself out of there? Look at this!"

"Well, it's not to my taste! It's not bread, y'know?"

Gary glowered down at the guilmon. "Are you kidding? You didn't like the taste? You were willing to stay trapped down there for days, because you didn't like the taste?!"

Gil held up his clawed hands defensively. "Look, this virus had me really worried, okay? Now how are you getting us out of here?"

"How am I getting us out of here?" Gary shook his head, sending wobbling ripples down his thick neck and chest. "My friend, I cannot walk. You can. You are getting us out of here. Start pushing. I'm… fairly certain that you can just roll me out of here…"
