I'd like to point out that the sadism in the book camp sequence has been verified by multiple marine corps veterans to be accurate, including by Hartmann's actor who was an actual marine drill seargent. Leonard's experience is a relatively authentic one.

2024-06-06 08:00:35 +0000 UTCKubrick's four other benchmark movies that should be seen are: Dr Strangelove, 1964, dark comedy. 2001: A Space Odyssey, 1968, sci fi featuring visual effects that are still truly spectacular by today's standards. A Clockwork Orange, 1971, crime / comedy (perhaps as it is hard to classify.) The Shining, 1980, horror. All these movies are very different from each other yet regarded as masterpieces, which just goes to show the range and skill of Kubrick.
