Some updates and opinions:

Some updates aside from my recent audio post:

1. Patreon has sales tax now. Woo! Here’s a great post someone I follow made that explains this very well:

“Due to new laws passing in several countries and US states, Patreon will be required to start charging sales tax on some pledges starting July 1st.

Less than half of all patrons will be charged sales tax, and for most, the amount will be very small. For example, sales tax rates in the US range from 4% to 11%, so on a $5 pledge, that would be between 20 cents and 55 cents.

Whether or not you will be charged sales tax depends on your location, and what is considered taxable there. Not every pledge is taxable, not all benefits are taxable in every location, and sometimes only a fraction of a pledge will be taxable. The money that Patreon collects as a result of these laws are paid directly to local governments.

If you’re in a location where sales tax will be required, you should expect to receive an email from Patreon with more information about this very soon, but I wanted to make sure you were aware of these changes way ahead of July 1st when they go into effect.

2. I’m going to be implementing the bill up front feature. It won’t impact current patrons as far as I know. This is a feature I’m implementing to protect my content as I’ve had some people sign up for a high tier and immediately cancel. I lose out on money, and they have the opportunity to see the content I make for you all for free which isn’t fair to you all.

If you are unhappy with this change, let me know. I want to put you all first as my current patrons!

3. Due to my upload schedule being hectic, I’m considering changing my tier structure because I don’t feel like I deserve the different tier structures with how fucked up I am with posting. I may just make a 5 dollar one and a 20 dollar one, or lower the tiers so there’s only 5 and 10 dollar patrons and the 10 dollar patrons will get the monthly audio messages from me. This also lets me reward more of you.

Let me know if this works or any other ideas.

I’ve been so guilty because I have been dealing with some shit and it’s not fair to you all for paying when I’m not holding up my end of the bargain. I’ve also been losing patrons left and right without them paying anything so it’s discouraging, due to patreon’s leniency with new patrons getting grace periods before being charged. It sucks waking up to 4 new patrons and an hour later all of them dipping and I worry about content being stolen. This, plus the lack of engagement my GWA posts have been getting have made me bummed sometimes but I won’t let this stop me from trying to better myself. If you have suggestions, let me hear them.
