Hello !

To not show Kima during the entire episode but to talk about her, about the fact she's between life and death, that she's not making any progress, that she could be paralyzed and to end the episode with that picture on his hand NOT MOVING… it hurt, a lot, but it was also a really good thing. Because this show is thought and written to be realistic, so yes, these cops are not John McClane, they can't get injured that badly and be back on the battlefield one hour later.

This entire episode was really about the consequences of what you get when you shoot a police. The cops are gonna want to send a message, they're gonna go on an hunt to catch the shooters but more than that, they're gonna go to catch everything and everyone that they can. Which is bad in fact for the cops, who can't continue their investigations. They go for the dope, and not the guys who are making it their business.
