Question of the Week! 4

Hello everyone and happy Wednesday! I hope your week is going good so far- two more days until Friday, you got this! :)

For this week's question, I thought it would be fun to ask what your favorite and least favorite classes/subjects were or are in school, college, etc.

For me, my favorite classes were English and Japanese. My least favorite were my art classes; I absolutely hated them and barely passed!

I've mentioned this before, but it was in one of my art classes that I got my one and only experience with detention in school. If any of you are curious about that story let me know and one day I'll make a little video to tell you what happened xD

Comments

No problem, I just hope it was somewhat understandable. Also glad to hear that you enjoyed reading it! I have an inability to type anything concisely lol so if anyone comes out enjoying my long ass messages then that's a W in my book

JokermanTalon

I'm sure that was very exciting! It's always a satisfying feeling when you can see something come to life like that. While I can't say I know much about the subject, I can tell you enjoy it and I think that's really cool. It's really nice to hear people talking about things they like so thank you for sharing that! :)

Anatomy was very fun to learn about. I really enjoyed anything to do with most science classes. I think the only one I had trouble with was Physics, but it was still very interesting and I tried my best! lol. Since I wasn't the best at math, it's awesome that you were good at it! I do get where you're coming from though. I remember a few times in school my P.E. teachers tried to get me to sign up for track and field and I couldn't be more disinterested. Even though I could run pretty fast, the idea of doing it on a team never appealed to me at that age. As for my hatred of art classes and detention, I'll make a video for you all this upcoming week! :D

alichu

Yeah math later in highschool became.. less fun. Sad actually

thegrashoper

I was pretty good at math up until Algebra 2. Everything after that started to get pretty difficult for me xD I still remember having to re-take my algebra end of course test since I did so poorly the first time haha!

alichu

I know pretty much next to nothing about programming, but I always thought it would be really interesting to learn about! It's cool when I meet people who know about that stuff, so that's really awesome! As for the job search course, I had something similar in school and I thought the same thing you did lol.

alichu

Anatomy was definitely my favorite. Really all the life sciences were but anatomy most of all. The inner workings of the body are really incredible, even at rest the body is performing so many different functions to, well, function! As for the least favorite, it was math, pretty basic answer. Kinda funny since I always landed advanced math courses through high school. Just goes to show that even if you’re good at something, it doesn’t mean you necessarily like it. I’m sure all of us would love to hear your story about why you hated art class so much too, given that you have a legitimate passion for it!

Secular Succotash

Ah.. P.E. Of course 😂 Well if we are only considering in classes, I guess I’d say Math, which most despise, justifiably. Until I got into precalculus, they started putting letters next to my precious numbers 😭

thegrashoper

Same dude, I love C# and a lot of my friend think I'm crazy for it as they are big fans of Python and/or JavaScript lol

JokermanTalon

Very true! I wish I could double like a comment for how accurate that is lol. We did end up having an internship class but with former students that now have studios. That let us use Agile in a live environment as well as putting into practice our studies in general.

JokermanTalon

Agile scrum would be a hard class to teach. It's the sort of thing that's much easier to learn by doing instead of learning through powerpoints.

cloudberrybob

My favorite class was software development in c# because c# is my favorite programming language. My least favorite class was my job search prep course because it didn't actually prepare me to search for a job. Most of the advice was too generic and obvious to actually be useful.

cloudberrybob

Yeah a lot of my classes were pretty rad! I went to a university that had a big focus on technology rather than general education. The biggest down side was the cost but it also wasn't super expensive comparatively. I also didn't fully learn about Inverse Kinematics in my class since I was a programming student instead of a design or animation student. However the use I was taught was using it to make characters feet pivot according to uneven terrain and individual legs accounting for different feet height. It doesn't sound like a lot but it was mind blowing for me to see my own character interact with the world like it was real rather than just kind of floating if one foot was on a rock and the other foot was supposed to be on ground level lol Also yes my Agile course was basically like any other required course that wasn't too interesting. Lots of power points and talking about use cases but nothing that was fun or neat to learn about. I look forward to the detention video! I'm sure many other people will as well!

JokermanTalon

I always wanted to take a photography class! I'm sure it was a lot of fun to learn how to use the camera and develop pictures. I recently bought a camera last year and I still feel like there's so much I don't know about it. I'm really sorry to hear that about your art teacher. I'm starting to think it's something with art teachers and them being jerks because all of mine were too!

alichu

I enjoyed history too! That's very impressive that you named all the countries, there's no way in hell I could have done that. I did better when it came to American History than World History, but I think that's only because the teacher was more enjoyable lol. When you went to a small school like mine, even a little fight was the news of the week xD It was usually over something so stupid too lol. I'll make a video this upcoming week about my time in detention! :D

alichu

Those classes sound super awesome! I have to admit, I'm jealous that you got to do a presentation on Berserk- that's so badass! I don't know much about 3D animation, but it sounds very interesting. I can only imagine the amount of learning and work that goes into that subject. I tried to look into what Agile Scrum was and for some reason it made me think back to those classes that are required as a credit. I really disliked those in school! Was it like those types of courses? As for my detention story, I'll make some time this upcoming week for a video! :)

alichu

That's super cool! I can only imagine how fun that was to do at school. I lived on a farm growing up, but I bet having other kids around would have made it much more enjoyable lol. Also, any class where you get to eat, especially BBQ, is an automatic win!

alichu

I'll make some time this upcoming week for a video on the story behind my detention! I was so pissed back then when it happened, but as an adult I admit it's pretty funny xD I'm sorry to hear you might have a cold :( Be sure to drink some tea with honey! Even though I hate the taste of the two together, I admit it usually makes me feel a little better. I was thinking about this as I typed the question, but I think it's a shame that certain teachers can make a subject unenjoyable as a kid/teen. That's exactly how I felt in my art classes!

alichu

Thanks for the encouragement. Unfortunately for me, I pursued Engineering so I had to deal with Calculus and beyond in Math. Always loved choir (Tenor 2), and I wish I had an easy way to outlet it like I do with art.

Kai Zomei

Getting back into the swing of work after vacation has always been tough for me, but I believe in you! :D I was pretty good at math until Algebra 2. After that everything started to get pretty difficult. I bet choir was fun!

alichu

I think in my undergrad time in college my favorite classes were my photography classes. In my intro class I got to learn how to use a classic film camera. I learned how to insert the film to the camera, light exposure, camera speed, and the aperture. After taking pictures we got to develop our film in a legitimate film black room and went through the whole process of getting the pictures from the film reel to an actual picture! My least favorite was my junior high art class which was mandatory. I think my teacher just had it out for me and I’ve never really been an artist since I can’t draw. Since my drawing skills were so poor I was kind of an easy target for her to go after so I really hated that class.

Vince

My favorite class would have to be history, I liked the subject even though they never really taught me anything I didn't already know, I liked when we had to name all the countries cuz I didn't even need to study. In hindsight I don't think I really hated any classes but if I had to pick one it would have to be chemistry cuz it was just so boring, the only interesting thing that happened in that class was a fight once lol. I also only got a single detention in school but I bet yours is much more of an interesting story, must tell.

Sir Skelington

Hello any and all reading this, I have had a pretty easy week due to some downtime at work. My absolute favorite class in college was a graphic novels class as I got to read things like Watchmen and Death Note for class. I also was able to do a presentation on Berserk which was hype. Also as I was Video Game Programming student one of my classes focused on Inverse Kinematics which is just a fascinating thing about 3D animation but would be too much to explain in this already lengthy reply lol. My absolute least favorite was a class on Agile Scrum which is a project management methodology that is an industry standard in Game Dev. However the class was so boring and dull, it was the only time I felt like dropping a class in college. Also as other people have mentioned, hearing the story about detention would be interesting!

JokermanTalon

My school had a farm so one of our subject choices was Animal Husbandry which was a blast. We got to be hands on with all kinds of animals and the teacher was super chill, she even hosted BBQs for the class on the last day before holidays. PE was my least favourite, except for when we got do dancing, I can rock a mean cha-cha!

codytachi

I remember you mentioning that in the comments of your art-senpie roleplay, do tell us about that one day! I'm curious. 😗 EDIT: But of course 😓 where are my manners. I hope you have a good Wednesday as well. Mines could've been better cause I think I might be coming down with a cold... and I have an exam tomorrow. Life's good to me haha As for my classes, I enjoyed English too - that and I love Physics. Many classmates took me as weird for liking English :P they all hated it! And my least favourite was probably Chemistry just because of how difficult I found it. Others here seem to have enjoyed History, unfortunately I didn't have the best teacher for it, she - and I quote one of my friends "killed History for me". No disagreement there.

Artilleries

Hello Ali, and happy Wednesday to you too. It's a been a shakey week back to work after my short vacation. Choir, Japanese, and history were my favorite subjects. I wasn't too big on English or Math classes.
