unboxing: Steam Deck

Friday was a frustrating day for my avatar. Saturday was a lot better [you heard the giggles] and today was lovely. After much toil, I have the heartbeat mic working. Now I just need to shave a tiny patch off my chest so you get a heartbeat instead of Italian body hair ASMR. Ah, the sacrifices we artists make.

We made 25 Venus prints today and they'll go out tomorrow after 25 quotes have been written. Thank you. I'm so proud of that one.

[tell me about a time you or someone you know were badass for the good guys]

My loyalty is my badassery [not a word but it is today]. You know that scene in “The Town” where Ben tells Jeremy he needs his help, can’t tell him what it is and they’re going to hurt people. Camera cuts to Jeremy, who’s sitting there watching TV or whatever, Jeremy pauses, looks up and says “who’s car we taking?” Yeah. I’m Jeremy. All day. Every day. For the people I love.

I’m in massive awe of all my fellow patients. I’ve been trying to think of something to contribute to the conversation. I don’t really have anything too revengey other than defending my younger less workplace experienced female coworkers (and coaching them on how to deal with/not take his crap) from our dude bro colleague who talks so unprofessionally to them it’s painful, and not being terribly kind to him when I point it out. 🙈 I’ve worked with kids forever, some in the foster care system some not. Some with histories so bad you want to go home and apologize to your parents for every temperamental thing you did as a kid cuz your angst just doesn’t compare. Now I work with kids from other countries, doing my dangdest to make sure they’re going somewhere safe and aren’t trafficked. I like to think keeping kids safe is doing stuff for the good guys.

I love this story (I have never done a badass thing in my life)

Margaret Peffy Margie Maggie

When I was in my early 20s I went to university in Germany for a year. My best friend was also a foreign student from elsewhere in Europe. He was only in Germany for a term, then back home. I learned that his girlfriend of over a decade was abusing him. Mostly emotionally but occasionally she’d hit him too. I had suspicions when she visited him in Germany but didn’t have confirmation until one of my visits to him after he’d gone home. So I got on a plane to his city, walked into their apartment, went up one side of her and down the other in three languages telling her what I thought of her, and took him back to Germany on the next flight. He went back to her after a month but she never said shit him again and they broke up within a year. He’s happily married now to a lovely woman.

My friend was dating a guy in college for a few months who was in a frat. He invited her to his winter formal and she bought a dress, got all ready, and waited for him to pick her up. He never showed. Mind you this is 2001, so social media and stuff wasn’t a thing, but the school isn’t huge and people talked. She found out he went with a different girl and ghosting her was his way to break up with her. He was saying lots of nasty shit about my friend and called her a prude along with all the typical bullshit asshole college boys do. I learned that weekend that hunters use deer urine to hide their scent and attract deer. We went to the local farm & fleet, bought some deer urine, and poured it in the cowl of his car. (The vent between the hood and windshield where air enters the car for the heater and AC) I don’t know if he ever figured it out, but we definitely heard about his “car issues” through the grapevine. 😏💚

It’s the kind of gray-area Anti-Hero that we live for, doc.

For my personal self-interested badassness, got divorced this year without a lawyer and I knew my ExH wouldn’t read anything because he’s far too smart and busy for that. LOL. I got the house nearly free and clear and he relinquished any claim to my pension. Check MATE motherfucker. For purposes of vigilante justice, I am a magnificent getaway car driver and I can talk my way out of just about any police interaction because I look like a mild mannered librarian but am in fact a goddamn Valkyrie.

The Lady Is A Tramp

Chaotic good.

The Lady Is A Tramp

I'm not a terribly petty person, but I did think of one action I did years ago that in hindsight is so me. For background, I grew up living with my grandparents and my grandmother was an educator (she's retired). She was also a union rep and served as secretary with the county teacher's union. At the elementary school I attended, 4th grade was when you could start taking band class and start learning a specific instrument. The class was a combination of 4th and 5th graders. The band teacher was a young-ish guy who was OK at the start, but then one time while we were all lined up outside in the hallway to walk back to our classroom, one of the 5th graders made a jokey comment to a friend ahead of them. Nothing insulting to the teacher, just a dumb joke. The teacher must have had a bad day because instead of "Ok, quiet down." He lunges at the kid, pulls at his shirt to bring him close, and starts yelling at him. I hate when people yell, so I was horrified. The kid laughed it off when we got back to class, but a few of us were angry. Well, enter me taking a sheet of paper and a pencil ... I hand wrote a petition to get the band teacher fired. I passed it around my class first to collect signatures and then again at lunch, it was circulated to the other class enrolled in band. That's when the petition was taken and my name was given as its originator. I was sent to the principal's office. He already knew who I was and who my grandmother was, so he was half-amused, half-"Don't do this again." He did mention it to my grandmother, but I didn't get into any trouble. I believe she thought it was a hoot as well. When I entered 5th grade, we had a new band teacher.
