Progress update 10.04.2025

Witness my funny Steam banner

Hey gang, so I've underestimated the waiting period that the Steam release would require. I knew the game page would have to wait in a state of "coming soon" for a minimum of two weeks, but what I didn't know was that the whole developer account would need to wait out a period of 30 days before it could publish anything at all. So that means a minimum of 45 days before the release starting now.

I was hoping to drop Z.A.T.O. much sooner, but I'm not sure if making an early Itch release is a good idea, considering the fact that Steam is a more "respectable" platform. It probably won't be a great look to split it up like that... So I wanted to gather some opinions. I really hate sitting on finished projects, but I also don't want to haphazardly push out a game release.

On a somewhat related note, I wanted to add the option of buying a 4-5 dollar digital art pack with some exclusive stuff for those that wanted to support the game in some way (since the VN itself will be free). I guess I could prepare more stuff for it using that extra timeframe.

I considered something like that, but in that case it's pretty much guaranteed to be leaked. I usually don't mind it too much, there's no real way to prevent Patreon content from being reuploaded elsewhere. But when it comes to something like a full game release, it's just too risky.

If possible maybe releasing a Patreon build on the original release date then when its able to be put on steam have it be published on both it and itch at the same time

i think waiting some more wouldn't be that much of a problem ☺️
