Industrious Chapter 14!

I'm sure it's still technically November somewhere in the world, even if just barely, so I'll count this as a win.  I'm really sorry about this, I was supposed to have this done yesterday, but I cut the shit out of my hand on a piece of sheet metal and had to get stitches.  Typing has needed a lot more care and attention to avoid aggravating my injury.  Still, this chapter's also extra-long as a result of that care and attention, so it's something of a win for you guys as well.

I'll have the monthly poll out shortly for December, so look forward to that as well.  I wonder which project will get the most attention this month?  (Ha-ha)

Industrious Chapter 14!

Comments

It depends on if the other dreamers are reincarnated as well...... There's a huge advantage of being reincarnated from a society that promotes free thinking. Because inspired inventor real advantage comes from creativity.

Kris Larsen

per slayer's comment on the qq thread, danzo is dead

Yichi Zhang

This chapter was a bit lack-luster as it was mainly an exposition dump.

Brotagonist

Potentially. There isn't all that much that's known for certain about 'Dreamers' and their kind, save that a certain level of the shinobi world knows they pop up from time to time and are extremely valuable strategic resources. Sarutobi is making a lot of 'best guesses' here, another reason why he's more inclined to take things slowly.

Slayer Anderson

While Sarutobi's take of "[Dreamers can] draw knowledge and skill out of the ether for any subject they like" goes against this, the chapter gave me a theory that other 'Dreamers' have had a slightly more limited version of what Kota can do. The examples of Gato and Vuruka suggest that they mono-focused on the megaprojects their lives depended on. The example of the Uzumaki suggests he monofocused on seals and spacial boundaries too deeply. Whereas Kota, in his initial surge, gained "Metaphysical Cosmology: Akashic Records". Basically I'm suggesting that what Dreamers can spend their charges on depends on what they spent their initial 'Potential' on. Since Kota was fortunate enough to spend his on "the root of all knowledge in all universes" his grasp is not constrained, whereas others may have been limited to, say, "Flying Super City" related subjects.

Bob Saget

I mean, definitely soon. Not sure if it's the very next thing, but by the end of the weekend definitely.

Slayer Anderson

Oh no, oh no. I fear this just painted a giant Danzo target on poor Kota. Especially all the emphasis on "we can't let OTHER villages get to him." Ominous foreshadowing intensifies. (Great chapter!)

AernJardos

I'm glad that some context was given by Sarutobi. It gives a neat way to both explain his powers and show why they won't quickly haul him off to T&I. It was a neat way to 'wrap up' that talking topic that's been on QQ.

So is another chapter of Industrious the next thing on the way?

Vanathor

He knows prana bindu. That makes him a FIGHTING DREAMER

Doggi

Not neccesarily. Less special, that is. He might be the only extra-dimensional reincarnator, and the only one reaching into other fictional worlds. It would give him an edge in the BS he can pull.

Doggi

You know, I was kind of feeling lukewarm about resubscribing, but this chapter convinced me. This was a really good take, and I really enjoyed seeing these characters interact as well as learning about the wider world a bit. Keep it up!

serguzzle

I guess the question now is, did any of the others know of the story setting as well? Like, maybe that Uzumaki was vaguely aware of Black Zetsu and trying to build a bunch of anti-Zetsu defenses mistaken as a weird fear of evil shadows. The more detailed stories feel like they were just native people that got the knowledge. There could still be some utility to passing on his version of the story if Zetsu is still around.

Esp

Well your fic actually can explain the weird tech with this dreamers thing, unlike the canon which just ignored the issue :D

Tom

It also addresses why there's so many AU elements. Gato dying during the rise of Hanzo must have sent huge butterflies in the timeliness.

Whale A

While the explanation takes away a lot out of how special our MC is it is also adresses one of the glaring weaknesses of the setting with the inconsistent tech level shown. I quite like it. On the other hand I love how Hiruzen is going along with this scheme. It highlights not only his personal experience but also sheer pragmatism which made him such a respected and feared figure amongst the shinobi. Here is a dude which actually can consider the long term view of things and how best to leverage it. All while trying not to be a total ass like most other shinobi are. There is a reason konoha is the setting designated good guys Village and he is a good part of the reason why.

Guilherme Bezerra

You know the fact that there is a chakra technique that removes all material requirements is hilarious if you have enough Chakra and/or control (The Creation of All Things) should help with materials. It's Also good that hes helping the one person in the setting that has the ability to warp reality basically through Genjustu.

Rockinalice

It does seems like a statistical impossibility for Kotaro to be the first case of a reverse chakra system considering how chakra likes to mutate in a short span of time. Now, I would gather that what he has going for him is been an Outside Reincarnation, giving him a greater pool of possible knowledge to get.

Wildebranch

The irratic technology of the setting, and the extreme lost technology super projects does seem to suggest that something like the MC's foundationless leaps in knowledge has a local precedence. Yet... I honestly really dislike this revelation. Here explaining the magic, and not in a way that I like, where the magic is basically a science. With this, all the weird super tech in the setting has a single explanation. Inspired Inventor. The mystery of the setting is gone. I'm self aware enough that I also dont like that it makes the mc less special. Overall, this chapter makes sense. It's written well, but I didnt really like what happened in it. I guess it's personal preference.

guymcfearsonm

Inspired Inventor is a bloodline in this universe, the messed up chakra coils explainaition is something that could probably be copied with inhuman experiments. Will we see missing nin Tsunade experimenting on little boys now? Both she and Orochimaru studied immortality, with their own twist on it.

Doggi

I think our MC is the first reincarnated person with the powers discovered in the elemental nations. The rest obviously ran away because of the shinobi or are just people with something similar to Kota's without the memories.

Guilherme Bezerra

Very interesting apparently our little reincarnation insert is not a special or unique as he thought apparently other people have had something similar to inspired inventor and have usually gotten killed shortly after they started doing big stuff that seems like at least a lot of their technology seems to revolve around chakra even though they should be developing stuff from other alien societies which would at least explain why they have so much trouble understanding it since they're preconceived notions would obviously involve chakra use in any technology. I'm wondering if all those other people the dreamers were reincarnations or just natives?
