Since a performer for tonight's show tested positive for COVID last week, I was called in as a replacement. (She's doing okay.) The show has sold out at 1/3 capacity for the venue, only six performers, masks galore unless performing, no curtain call, no social interaction. I feel pretty safe.
I'm happy to perform. My last in-person gig was February 28th, and I did one online show last summer. I'm also happy that the performer I'm replacing is doing okay.
The acts I'm doing tonight were booked for February instead of January. As soon as I knew I was booked for February, I started the conditioning I could do to prepare for these monstrously beautiful fans. They're too big to really work with in my apartment. My regular studio rental now requires a four-hour booking instead of a single hour. (I can break those hours up, but it's a bit of a hassle if I don't do at least two hours at a time. The max I can do with these fans is one hour.) I didn't have the time booked at Dallas Pin Up last weekend to take my fans and work with them.
The show is tonight. This week has been busy. I have to make do.
Last night I went to the apartment complex gym in a mask (as required) and ran the act twice. There was enough space and a mirrored wall. I just wish I had a little more time.
My belly dance teacher told us to keep a smile on our faces so people are less likely to notice any choreography mistakes. I'm going to be smiling a lot tonight. :)
