I'm sorting out what the next costume and act shall be. I have some investment pieces coming and some large props in my mind. I wanted to create two new acts this year. I did that, but the acts I built were both for Star Wars. I need some good stuff-- some standards that get me the kind of gigs I want (with the kind of pay I deserve after so many years in burlesque.
I need to get my creative mind activated. It's sometimes recalcitrant or distracted. I'm clearing out cobwebs.
I like to tackle small projects that gently stimulate my creative mind.
I started this dog quilt in the '90s. I forgot about it most of the time we lived in Los Angeles, uncovering the supplies right before we moved. After laundering the fabric twice, it's time to remove these goodies from my studio floor and start making the quilt.
This thing is going to be insanely large. I like to tuck my covers around myself, and I want this quilt to fit my lifestyle.
The quilt allows me to do some light problem solving, making creative decisions on something practical. I don't have to worry about how the audience will receive it (even though I do that naturally), easing the pressure of the project.
I can also walk away from it if I get frustrated. That's not something I can do when I have a costume with a deadline.
You'll notice it's dalmatian fabric. We had two dalmatians many years ago. Loved the breed but they had health problems. There will be influences of the later mutts on the quilt as well. (I have more dalmatian tales to tell, very relevant to some choices I make as a creative person.)
