LOVED seeing Canute in the presence of the King! That was so tense. The mind games/strategy are on another level. Once again, we have an L on identifying a character. Thank goodness for Kiss! Super eager to continue. Thanks for being here and we'll see you Thurs for the next one!

2025-09-03 23:14:36 +0000 UTCThe scene with King Sweyn is so tense, it's amazing, you never know what path the story will take in these moments!! And Askeladd showing some... appreciation? For Alti and his brother. He's a monster but... he's also simply a man as well. Maybe his hatred of Danes can't fully make him hate each individual. The story of King Sweyn driving out his father to exile is true history! Sweyn Forkbeard, as he was known, rebelled against his father Harald Bluetooth (don't you love all these names?) in the mid 980s, barely in his mid-twenties, which would make him around 50 where Vinland Saga currently takes place! Aged like fine wine, that one. Trying to find some more sources on why the rebellion against Harald went down, some say it was against the forced Christianization of Denmark, but it could simply be disputes of power and rule. He did have several churches built during his reign and recruited bishops and priests, so he wasn't hostile to Christianity, but this could also be seen as purely political.
