A choice i leave to you.....
Added 2025-01-28 15:12:08 +0000 UTCThe whole premise of a celestial forge fic is that the user gains more and more powers until they are overpowered or leave the current setting they are in after gaining multiversal power.
Yet many, both on QQ and Ao3 write that with all this power, there is no stakes except useless ones i make up for pointless drama and thus making the story boring.
The question is....should he continue to gain powers from the forge? He is due a roll as i reached 5 chapters with chapter 30

More power, but be selective. Also I personally think your one roll per five chapters is a good one. These celestial smith/forge ect can get way out of control and you end up stacking powers so fast most of the rolls become pointless if you hit something truly powerful..

2025-02-01 20:37:19 +0000 UTCI like the idea of him getting more and more powers and eventually moving on to another universe, preferably with Sansa. I could see them becoming a power couple. It would be especially interesting to see them in the MCU especially since Sansa already has the Stark name and I could see Owen, Tony, and Bruce having a bromance.

2025-01-29 06:14:58 +0000 UTCMake the stakes social not physical (no matter how advanced the mc gets there is only one of him and the forge doesn't help much in no violent human interaction.)

2025-01-29 03:42:06 +0000 UTCYou could potentially raise the stakes in a meaningful way, possibly because of the return of magic white walkers are stronger or potentially threats from essos like the current yellow emperor or sorthoryos and the drowned god.

2025-01-29 02:32:10 +0000 UTCI think adding more powers is important to the story given the premise, because he could almost certainly steamroll Westeros as is, power creep will be an issue. So you'd want to maybe consider limiting rolls to powers that 1) are not really power increasing if you want to continue writing the story on westeros, or write the other continents as valuable to conquer and having strong beasts/gods 2) a multiversal power to jump to a stronger world, if that is what you want to do. You probably also want to move to a milestone based reason for giving any strong powers anyway.

2025-01-29 00:27:59 +0000 UTCI cant wait for Owen to gain multiversal powers. I want to read his adventures in other universes.

2025-01-29 00:08:16 +0000 UTCMaybe it would be best to have a larger goal for rolling his powers much more. He is in a sense unbalancing the world he’s in currently. Maybe all of the powers up to now can be inherited by his descendants. What if the main reason for his arrival was not just the long night, but to bring magic back to the four bloodlines that fought in the first long night. The first men, children of the forest, valyrians, and (possibly ) the rhoynar. Specific people with certain attributes are supposed to have specific powers. But the doom and the andals imbalanced everything. Maybe make this a quest from the actual old gods (of which could include the valaryan and rhoynish gods) to reset the original plans. Targeryens destroyed their own lineage by focusing on purity, but were never high enough on the hierarchy to know why the valaryens were given fire and dragons in the first place. Starks were given direwolves and Natural abilities, but forgot their true role. Ect

2025-01-28 23:46:15 +0000 UTCI think he needs to get more power, but to do it slowly, and then, once this world is finally over and the story is wrapped up, unshackle his power fully and send him to his next world.

2025-01-28 22:57:50 +0000 UTCI’m in the camp of more power means more drama. Sadly this tends to come from angst and I hate pointless angst. Hope you don’t go the angst route but outside of some super evil hidden somewhere, GoT is pretty used up. The only thing holding the North back at this point is Ned himself.

2025-01-28 18:09:18 +0000 UTCNo more powers might be a mistake. But rerolling overpowered perks, slowing progression, etc is all fine. At a certain point (a point the MC has already sort of reached), more power doesn’t really do a ton. Instead, the main difficulty is integrating the inventions and changes into the world in a way that doesn’t utterly destroy society or end up with the MC effectively being forced into the roll of god emperor. The MC will need to start selectively bc hooding how to use his powers and what to reveal instead.

2025-01-28 17:19:38 +0000 UTChere's the thing. CF fics don't last long into where it starts being a multiversal story and are more effective in series that can go to toe with Celestial xyz characters. I say that delay things a little bit. Let them cry about muh optmisation and post on omake of MC going full in and just bloat the page with technobabble and upgrades forgetting about characters. Let them have a taste of what they want.

2025-01-28 17:05:58 +0000 UTCCF fic are usually in op universes, highschool DXD, Naruto, Worm. they are two in asoiaf that i can recall. The fic is good, but same of the problems I can recall when first starting the fic are

2025-01-28 16:38:51 +0000 UTCIf you are not going to add threats then you need to carefully select which perks to give and probably reduce the amount significantly. Change it to a milestone system rather than based on chapters or words for example. In fact, I switch to the milestone version regardless it's just a better pacing overall
LysanderArgent
2025-01-28 16:36:34 +0000 UTCAdd more rolls, but add more threats to compensate. How you do that is up to you. The lore of ASOIAF has a bunch of stuff that could be dormant that having all this magic pumped into the air could be activating, and a lot of signs that it is part of the Lovecraft mythos or at least has beings, places, and monsters based on it. You could also introduce more crossover elements portals to other settings. Owen doesn't seem the type to go looking for trouble so you will need to bring it too him. Etc.

2025-01-28 16:34:01 +0000 UTCJust make magic more active, with the Gods growing in strength and starting to bless people after the war as the sacrifices of so many lives helped umleash magic back onto the world in full

2025-01-28 16:28:43 +0000 UTCTo be honest the bedt CF stories aren't about powers or threats, theh are about the effects, how others react and thd long term plans. And threats have to make sense, sk just having something there for drama usually sucks, but things caused by the forge make sense. Like gaining elder blood from the witcher would draw in the wild hunt or Elizabeth's powers from bioshock could draw in those vile roman wannabes that use her as organic engines. In westerns you can have legitimate threats that are terrifying to deal with, it just has to be organic. Then again it depends on the rolls.

2025-01-28 16:08:16 +0000 UTCSome should be bad but he can skip. But i do think he should get some ones that summon a person like Leonardo da vinci to the world for example. Not powerful but useful
Holosagewolf
2025-01-28 16:04:02 +0000 UTCNot all the rolls should be instantly helpful some can be counter productive
Savagesmiley
2025-01-28 15:55:01 +0000 UTCAt this point any new power's should be either given at the end in the case the story goes mutiversal or power's that would cover his weaknesses. One story that I feel did well with giving the Mc power's is Wizard beyond the wall.
TyrTheFallen
2025-01-28 15:54:58 +0000 UTCI agree, I think he should get more powers but just change the cadence - instead of every 5 chapters do every 10 or even every 15 chapters, this will slow down the progression and keep the celestial g. theme.
Bladesunder
2025-01-28 15:39:37 +0000 UTCA middle ground could be good, stop the power gain for now and once he "finishes" with GOT you can make him gain points normally again, maybe give him points for achievements while he was in the world and do rolls before the new one, to be honest, just with the library in the temple of Solomon he can already steamroll everything in GOT, also, mental partition and acceleration exists, the magecraft that allows multiple parallel thoughts proceses to do different stuff, he can use it both to learn and to use when you need to think about something but don't have time, like when your gf asks if her pants make her look fat.

2025-01-28 15:27:23 +0000 UTCCelestial fics aren’t stories that last long unless you’ve got a real good equation for how he gains his powers. An equation where he can gain quite a bit of power quickly early on but lessens as the story progresses. Or the randomization is more balanced where he can suddenly gain beginner level stuff even during end game.

2025-01-28 15:24:48 +0000 UTCI’m fine with more powers. He really doesn’t have that many. The ones he has are just very broad in what they gave him. To me you’re already doing the best thing an op fic can do is show the povs of people affected by the changes. We’ve mostly seen nobles so far so maybe throw in some small folk perspectives. A sailor working on one of the ships, someone who grew up with him in his home village, a bandit trying to rob someone in the north, a septon in white harbor trying to keep his flock etc.
Lictor Magnus
2025-01-28 15:23:41 +0000 UTCI think you have a good balance going already. Everything he has gotten so far has been allowed time to shine without overshadowing any other. And, well. He is already very overpowered lel

2025-01-28 15:23:09 +0000 UTCThere's really no need to power up the zombies. Not when there are things like the faith, the fire god, the curse of valerya, and other things that GOT never really explored. Not to even mention the possibility of world hopping.

2025-01-28 15:21:28 +0000 UTCI think give him other smithing techniques ... Maybe celebrimbor template from LoTR etc etc. Nothing too OP

2025-01-28 15:20:18 +0000 UTCYou can do what you want, people are going to complain no matter what. It’s a great story, and more realistic that the MC is going murder hobo in everyone. Most CF fics are super fast paced like 1 month and they are supposedly gods now. This one has good pacing and good dialog.

2025-01-28 15:18:58 +0000 UTCMaybe resources and items but not powers.
Noctis117
2025-01-28 15:18:48 +0000 UTCThe fic has already tread AU grounds, adding a few new elements to boost the White Walkers should be fine. TBH, the White Walkers lost the first time to Cavemen with Bronze era weaponry, so realistically any level of military advancement would almost trivialize them.

2025-01-28 15:17:43 +0000 UTCWhat you could do once he beats the night king, is have him dimension hop to settings such as Star Wars, Wh40k, etc. Give him another couple of forge rolls whenever he jumps to a new setting.
Gage Scott
2025-01-28 15:17:19 +0000 UTCif you plan to use the Ice Zombies you could give them a power boost. I feel like he has more than enough power to deal with the normal mortals but if the zombies get a power up you could give him a new power when they become a bigger part of the story
