"If you begin to regret, You'll dull your future decisions and let others make your choices for you. Then all that's left for you is to die." ~Erwin

Can I tell you a wild story? Isayama named Levi after a kid in a documentary called "Jesus Camp". Well, several years ago, my best friend moved to Kansas City and started going to this really weird, charismatic mega church and she kept telling me about this guy she had a crush on there named Levi. I went to see her one weekend and we went to her church and I met Levi. We got to talking and he mentioned he was in a movie when he was a little kid called Jesus Camp....yep, it was the Levi that this Levi was named after 😆 Small world, for real.

personally i like the anime version more but i do appreciate that manga version. See i dont think the anime needed to showcase how "amazing" levi is by fighting 3 titans, it's not like he's taking out 50 titans by himself or something, and the viewer wont understand that you're comparing "3" to "1" and ergo levi is acting stronger on day 1. I think we've already gotten the showcase that he's good, and fast in that training stubborn session + what levi's done in the past in terms of the battle of trost and female titan arcs. If anything the RAGE of Levi is more warranted here. To show how low he got and how rageful he was and yet instead of lashing it on Erwin, he's channeling it to follow erwin's commands, which has a VERY important pay off in future episodes if you think about how rage-filled levi is against a specific target that he needs to put down. It adds more pay off to his character, and not to sound similar to the attack-on-titans-in-9-minutes video, but we all knew that his 2 friends were basically meat fodder the second we saw them on screen because they arent even mentioned in current times... so seeing them act strong and loyal is moot, and while a goodbye is nice, which they probably could still have snuck into the anime shot right before red-eyes-titan bit furlan, and that levi feels guilt for not being able to arrive on time and wishes he never left their side... but i think the shocked surprise of finding them dead already just highlights even more his rage that not only did he fail them, he will never know what he could have done differently to save them if he had been there, he can only assume and internalize a guilt over a choice he made... so instead of being rageful forever, he let it out, and erwin taught him to live with no regrets, so that he can be better at protecting the NEXT isabella and furlan from their own demises, with a clear mind.

Levi's speech to eren now exposes a double meaning with the "I know it sucks to hear this, and I dont know what is right or wrong here, to trust in yourself or your comrades... but you have to make a choice, and all I can say is that you should make the choice that you'll regret the least. That and the fact that we always saw Levi trusting Erwin no matter what. Even when Erwin told him to stock up on gas instad of retreating, Levi has learned that Erwin is always looking 10 steps ahead, he's looking at something that Levi can't see himselff, he's looking at something much greater than what others around him do, and so like Levi said here, Levi will keep following Erwin for as long as Erwin can keep leading him to that unknown that's out of reach. Which is such a thing for Levi, coming from a few moments ago where he told Erwin "Erwin, I'm going to be the one that makes sure you die.", to accepting the bitter choice of losing the people closest to him, in order to lead humanity to an unknown future. And since you're already a bit ahead: Now look back at the scene where Levi saw his dead squad, and even cut a piece of Petra's clothing to get her scout badge. Which he gave to that idiot that carelessly got titans chasing after their wagons? he couldn't keep even that single memory of Petra, which he seemed to be fond of, maybe because she had similar physical looks to Isabella and he saw her as a younger partner, and even then, he lost her too, and had to face her family with nothing to show for (because he lost petra AND gave the badge to antoher soldier to make him think it was another soldier friend of theirs)... , and levi just took the burden on his own shoulders because, like he said, he has to live with no regrets or else it will bury him alive....

Never watched the OVA's myself - so first time viewing for me and I got to be honest - this episode brought a tear to my eye :|

RawrSaur

Yeah, I understand exactly why you'd place it a bit later and it does make sense. I just feel that generally it's for the most part disconnected from anything in the main series and stands as a separate story, therefore can be watched at any time after the first season really

Baker

I just wanted to share my appreciation for the fact that you guys post the edited and the full length reactions here at the same time

Isaiah Porter

That “wow” “wow” in the beginning sounded just like Choochoo, the dog from One Piece hahahaha

Green Hog

Im so excited for you two but shoot... season 2 is buck WILD! I hope you two are ready for it!

chrislu71 .

It takes all my brain power to come up with the simple ones and just having a little fun along the journey :D

Isac christensen

I Unfortunately am not that good

Isac christensen

Absolutely, my reasons for placing it later in the watch order is what I was concerned might contain spoilers

Anna Kyruin

And Petra in ep 15

Sean Carroll

There are zero spoilers in no regrets at this stage

Sean Carroll

At the end of AOT journey, I expect you to come up with a full Index of contents with your Episodes names. Ta

PKS

So late :( Anyways, so did you learn the AOT Shinzō wo Sasageyo Salute yet ?

PKS

the differences between the manga (which was not drawn by Isayama btw) and the OVA are quite interesting and we understand the reasons for the changes but if anyone is interested here are the big differences of the end fight: (if you want keep in mind only the anime do not read !!): in the manga, we see Furlan and Isa fighting with great courage, but there are 3 titans (and not just one abnormal) We see them all being decimated until 'so that only Furlan remains but his ODM doesnt work anymore. Levi heard them from afar and did everything to arrive in time, but he only had time to see Furlan say goodbye before ending up killed by the titan. We saw Isa doing everything to save his brother and it's really beautiful :'( In the anime, Levi takes out his hatred on a single titan so we see all the rage he feels, because he's doing useless move (at least, it's useless if you want to be efficient). In the manga he kills 3 titans single-handedly, which demonstrates how strong he really is, but we feel his rage a little less, I think. I think the two complement each other quite well. Seeing Levi's rage on a single titan is truly... horrible. But I don't know if I prefer the fact that we don't see anything that's happening, or if seeing the courage they all had (including their leader too whose name I don't have, sorry) is something beautiful but very sad at the same time. (And when it came out, I was disappointed that there was only one titan instead of three, because we don't see his strength, but like I said, it allows us to put forward his pure rage) (sorry for my english, I'm not a native)

Shimini

No Regerts is part back story showing us Miche (the sniffing guy) was always a badass, Levi was always bad ass, Erwin was always a badass and Hange was always crazy! :) but also there is always sadness right around the corner :(

Now Levi's speech to Eren when entering the giant trees carries a lot more weight. "Our difference in experience is why we don't see eye to eye, but you don't need to rely on that. Choose. Will you trust yourself, or me, these guys, and the entire scout regiment? I don't know the answer to that. I never have. Whether I trusted myself, or the choices of my dependable comrades, there was no telling in how things would turn out. So just choose the best you can, and choose whichever you'll regret the least."

Jake Thompson

Sure, with most things I prefer release order, not sure I can comment on why I would move it without risking spoilers. There's some great things about watching it right after S1 as well.

Anna Kyruin

This underground city was mentioned by Armin when they were trying to trap Annie underground.

Mesbah Mohamady

I mean it released in the space between S1 and S2, most people who watched it, watched it during that timeframe because they were starved of AOT anime content

Baker

The second you see characters with Levi in a flashback where they're not present in the main story, you just know it's gonna be cruel. No regrets, except the regret of putting our emotions through the wringer.

Baker

season 2 is gonna be so good! can’t wait! the reactions are great as always guys keep it up!

Sam Rat

Levi: The episodes one and two

Isac christensen

I would have put this elsewhere in the watch order, but this is fine TBH.

Anna Kyruin

Wow!

JS

erwin lifted levi up after he was suffering in the underground city, he kinda was the reason to make his life better

Zain kb

Sam Rat
