I mean, look no further than Violet Evergarden in here, as a clear example of this.

The fact that most people call it a good “isekai” instead of a good “show” or “anime” should say it all lol

It's an alright show in it's immediate sphere of isekai light novel adaptations, but it doesn't hold a candle to any of the other shows on the list in my opinion. And I know it's different in a lot of ways, but dropping Re:Zero just to jump into Overlord seems questionable to me. It seems like it's gonna win second place so I'm quite curious to see if he actually enjoys it or not.

Also while the world stuff in Overlord is perhaps similar to Re:Zero, the main character is completely different and I think more to what Tony will enjoy which is why I think it's on this list to begin with.

Overlord seems like a decent reco to me, but doesn't fully convince me, just hope it resonates more with Tony. I know no one asked, but my order of recommendation from this list would be: 1. Kaiji 2(a). Cowboy Bebop 2(b). Castlevania 4. Overlord Looking forward to your reactions and feedback regardless!

Personally at least the gimmick ran thin pretty quickly and it didn’t have the production values of Solo Leveling to keep me watching. But hey I’m relatively new so I could be wrong. Juvenile isn’t the word, but it feels like it targets the same demographic as something like Re:Zero which is why I made the comment.

I really think if Cowboy Bebop doesn't win, Castlevania might be the best option here. I do think cowboy bebop could be his vibe if he doesn't mind the older style and slightly slower pacing at times. it's not an "exciting adventure anime" it's more watching old dogs fight the demons of their past. That said, it's by the same guys that did Kids on the Slope so I have high hopes. If Bebop does win and Tony does end up enjoying it, I'd really like to see him try on Samurai Champloo for size as well since that would be yet another show from the same director. Either way, while Overlord is not my thing, and I hope cowboy bebop wins, I really hope to see Tony fall in love with it like so many of us did back in the day.

2025-01-02 01:54:54 +0000 UTCwell heard it on trash taste, nearly every single anime reviewer has said it, and im not interested enough to go through every single spoken and written interview to find it lol, maybe its an old wives tales that everyone and there mother believes and say's maybe not, but even if it isn't it is still neigh universally thought to be be better in English, and has a completely different feel. when i was in japan i even found that alot of japanese people like the English dub more, even those who had to watch it with Japanese subs(ie spoken english, and then kanji subtitles). not surprised with this list that it will in, however it will still be up to tony how he watches it.

However, you have to get past the slow first season. Overlord is niche and comes down to if Tony's grumpy old guy scanner, digs the niche or not. Lol. Interesting.

2025-01-02 00:07:40 +0000 UTCPersonally im going to vote beebop, with a high recommendation for the eng dub, even the Japanese creator thinks the eng dub is better than the sub, its a completely different vibe, with Disney level voice actors I feel like from what you watch and your reactions castlevania, cowboy beebop, and kaiji will all work for you, overlord im wavering on whether youll like it or not because of re:zero and fmab that it might be a 50/50 whether you'll like it or not, i will say that there is a reason the 3 episode rule is memed in anime, because of how they work stories in anime due to broadcast schedules, typically the story is broken into 3 episode rounds, then into 12-13 or 24 episodes, however i know you'll like the first 3. also i did watch the video so i do understand why your only doing 1, time is what it is, im 32 with family friends and a job, so i get it.
