226 - Dev Blog

Hello, hello! It’s still so goddamn cold. Why is it so cold? It was 4°C last night. That sort of temperature should be illegal in Brazil! Can you even understand what it’s like to go out on the streets and see all women wearing heavy coats rather than tube tops and hot pants?



So the last release cycle was pretty abysmal… I really don’t have an excuse for it. It was a mix of outside factors and a lack of drive to pull crazy hours and make up for them. To be perfectly honest, after working on Rise for over four years, we’re both pretty tired of looking at Catherine’s face. These days it seems like we spend more time talking about other projects we want to do than talking about Rise. That’s only compounded by the fact that Rise always seems to be one year away from being done, but we have been saying that for two years now. 


Well. That’s just a bunch of excuses, isn’t it? If we’re tired, we just need to find a way to revive the drive that we had when we first started the project. I guess that involves doing new things, like implementing new systems, for example! Updates without new scenes always do very poorly and lose us a lot of patron members, so we always prioritize getting new scenes out, but there’s only so much we can handle of writing/drawing porn week in and week out. So for this next update, we’ll be taking a break from that. Vane will do some sweet, sweet programming, and Banshee will finally get the time to finish up the backlog of characters we have.


So on Vane’s end, he’ll work on writing a bunch of code that will speed up his development process and allow him to make changes to the structure of previous scenes without having to disrupt the scene architecture, which is going to be vital in allowing him to add a few more choices and reactions based on a new personality system that we want to implement for the game. He’s also going to implement the accessory system. This will allow for the customization of piercings and tattoos. The initial plan is for them to show only when Catherine is naked, but Vane wants to see if he can allow them to show on clothing that leaves naked skin visible, though that increases the system's complexity by quite a bit. Keep in mind that these are only for sprites. These accessories will not be added to CGs as that would be a monumental task due to different angles and distances from the camera.


On Banshee’s end, she'll work on finishing the sprites of several characters that we've added recently, as well as reworking Catherine's sprite to support the new accessory system! She thinks Cath looks a bit outdated at this point, and we can't have a main character that looks worse than the newly added side characters, so she will be fixing that too! Banshee's also studying the possibility of giving her base outfit a couple more poses to make her even more dynamic and customizable.
