Those of you who have been following my work for a while might know that I struggle with seasonal depression every year. Now that I'm aware of this, every year gets better as I learn to deal with it.
My wonderful wife had been encouraging me to get back into visual art lately. Drawing is something I used to enjoy, but I gave up over 10 years ago, basically after I'd been deployed to combat. My art got really dark and wasn't making me happy anymore.
Fast forward to today, and I have actually picked up a pen again. My supplies are terrible. I've basically been using 2 sizes of sharpie marker, and a couple sets of the cheapest paint markers I could find on Amazon.
In fact, as you will see, I've had some trouble with how crappy the markers are. MTG cards are covered with a water resistant finish.
I started with the "meh" bear, and a zombie token. Simple stuff to get my hand moving again. The next day I started working on the Saproling deck box.
This has progressed until I did the sea monster deck box (that one is for my wife--she likes playing big blue and green creatures).
The Slimefoot alter is the first alter I've ever done in my adult life. I'll include a picture of the first "alter" I've ever attempted that I still have, too. When I was a kid, I actually attempted making a gar creature from the Sword of Truth series by the late Terry Goodkind. It's pretty terrible, but I'm glad that I still have it. lol
It's kind of fun to look at it side by side with the Slimefoot. In another year or two, if I keep up with painting, I think it'll be fun to see how I've progressed.
Anyway, this is a sample of the work I've done over the last few days. Even though it's taken me some time, it's really satisfying to see everything laid out in one place, and it's been really effective at keeping the depression at bay.
More importantly, it's been helping me write better. Work is still slow, but holy crap I've been happy with what I've been writing lately. Delvers 5, chapter 3 should be out soon, and I think some of ya'all are gonna be blown away.
Thank you for listening!
