Man... this arc of Monster really holds a special place with me, from Thursday's Boy through to the conclusion of this arc of the story. Truly gripping storytelling throughout, and I think it's a huge credit to the quality of the story that I remember even now, years later, being on the edge of my seat the whole time when I first watched this episode, particularly given that this episode could be considered to be a set up episode. There is a real sense that we could be stepping in to something quite climactic here, and, whilst there's certain things that can be assumed when looking at the current episode number compared to the running length of the show, there's so much that's really very uncertain as to what could unfold here.
One moment that stands out to me; Lunge questioning whether Tenma (ostensibly) would be considered a good person, by not being a bad person, and then taking that line of thought and turning it around to consider Lunge, and how he might see himself later in the episode, when he makes the choice to leave his daughter and grandchild stood up like that. Objectively, that's a pretty poor way to treat your family, and, I don't think it's unfair to say that from what we see of Lunge that maybe calling him a good person might be overly generous, but, we can also see that his instinct was meet with his daughter, but, some mental gymnastics were applied to commit him to his work. I can't say that that makes it ok, but, it does call into question whether we can say that we (or Lunge himself) should consider Lunge a bad person in that moment. Lunge's certainly amongst my favourites in this show, and I find that thinking about how he might view himself in those moments to be quite an enjoyable aspect of his character.
