Mocap Suit and Face capture test

I got the suit unpacked in the new place, and thanks to a friend I have an old iPhone that supports the face capture app for the suit. Slava and I have some dialing in and calibrating on the shapekeys, but if this works it's another giant leap forward in saving time in future productions.

I'll try and see if it's possible to record the voice acting at the same time as the motion/face capture. Lots of potential behind-the-scenes stuff to film, for sure!

We've already finished over a dozen shots using the capture data for the ref models (instead of doing rig animation with a mouse) and the 2d animation that comes from it looks great so far.

I'm going to get familiar with the mocap suit again later tonight, and then get to acting out the next scene's characters.

If you have any questions about the Rokoko capture stuff I'm using, ask away in the comments. I myself am still pretty new to this, and I'm learning as I go.

plus, if you want something cool to try out: https://www.tgtakm.com/store/p/sle6eedkk8vqg1ppo54wnk4zh32f2b definitely give this a peep. Probably not useful at this exact moment with this exact project, but could be cool for a future idea.

if you're looking to get into recording voices at the same time as mocap, you should try to do it the way they do in a pro mocap setting! see if you can use a lavalier mic like a DPA 4060 or 4061 (either of which can be had for cheap) clipped to a beanie or whatever head mounting you have going on with the rokoko suit. that way, you can record VO at the same time as the mocap. If you need extra insurance, renting a boom mic/shotgun mic can work as well. Source: someone who is friends with people working on AAA video games, but isnt in the games industry themselves.

Matthew, it is Wonderful the way you keep all of us informed. One of the outstanding qualities of your finished work is the subtle facial expressions. Fans can follow a character's thoughts without dialog, just from the expressions. I am justly proud to be one of your subscribers, and thank you for the status updates.
