Something you may not know is as a result of Joy Divisions ending they reformed later and became New Order a very successful band

2025-04-01 08:56:38 +0000 UTCHey my beloved Americans. It would be worth your time to watch Hurt the cover by Johnny Cash and learn the story about it before hand. Even after so many years it still touch's my heart

2025-03-22 21:11:04 +0000 UTCThe lyrics are really sad, about a troubled marital relationship. Maybe if the lyrics, of the verses in partcular, were scrolled along the bottom of the video people new to the song would really get the full emotional hit. Maybe someone has done one and put it online.

2025-03-22 19:43:28 +0000 UTCI went to school with Ian Curtis's daughter Natalie in Macclesfield, she looks so much like him! My Dad lives a couple of streets away from Ian's family home in Macclesfield

2025-03-22 19:41:11 +0000 UTCStick it in the music suggestions list and it may get chosen for a poll.

2025-03-22 17:16:00 +0000 UTCThe sound not great cause they played it live in an empty warehouse! I get you wanted to look them up but i think the emotion yous both had can sometimes deflect away from his genius! His death made this one in particular unforgettable 🥹

2025-03-22 16:52:59 +0000 UTCMy ex (a big JD fan) is from Macclesfield, where Ian Curtis was from and lived, so she grew up right round the corner from where he lived and died. and around the time I met her, I discovered I had epilepsy, the same as Ian Curtis, and I am also a huge JD fan, so all those things made this band seem even more important to both myself and my ex.

2025-03-22 16:00:28 +0000 UTCThey filmed the video in their rehearsal rooms, which were in abandoned industrial buildings, so I think they just had their names carved in the door

2025-03-22 15:26:13 +0000 UTCThere’s an incredible Joy Division documentary by Grant Gee I believe, the films 24 Hour Party People and Control are well worth a watch

2025-03-22 15:21:06 +0000 UTCI’m a huge fan of Joy Division and New Order, definitely a difficult listen
Kieran B
2025-03-22 15:20:35 +0000 UTCHe killed himself as he didn't want to be here anymore. His epilepsy was getting much worse, he had been having an affair and the pressure of the band and touring were getting to him.

2025-03-22 15:11:04 +0000 UTCAfter Ian died, Joy Division reformed as New Order and were incredibly successful. I’m pretty sure you will be familiar with their song Blue Monday, as it was massive worldwide and is very much a signature tune of the times.

2025-03-22 14:35:55 +0000 UTCAfter Ian's death Joy Division became New Order. New Order - True Faith is a great song https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mfI1S0PKJR8

2025-03-22 14:27:20 +0000 UTCApart from the chorus, I genuinely think I'd need to look up the lyrics to be 100% sure and I've heard it ever since I was born! A very tortured soul but a very talented musician

2025-03-22 14:19:37 +0000 UTCA stone cold classic. The context is tragic but when it comes to music I actually find it cathartic.

2025-03-22 14:15:34 +0000 UTCThe band knew Ian had many issues health and mental health, but they had no idea that he was going to kill himself. The band were just about to embark on their first American tour and they were becoming sucessful at the time Ian commited suicide. It was a massive shock to them and everyone who knew Ian.
