If it were up to us, "Lie" would be nominated for an EMMY, OSCAR, GRAMMY, and TONY award all at the same time. This was a vintage and spooky cinematic masterpiece that gave us a glimpse into Jimin's extraordinary artistic mastery and diversity (sorry for the all of the fanciful language…it's the only way we know how to express our deep appreciation for BTS’ music!).
We may need to analyze "Lie" a few more times in order to truly capture and do justice to all of the intentional detail embedded within this song.

So Jimin is my bias and I think much of that stems from the fact that his dancing mesmerizes me because I took dancing all through school and I love dancing. It's really HARD for me to watch anyone else, although I try really hard because I know they are all really great. This is why multiple viewings are so important. But LIE is just on a scale of its own making. Lie is one song I have watched a few other reactions from a long time ago when I just needed to watch every single thing I could find on the song. I remember one singers reaction discussing the talent it took for Jimin to sing while he was being held in that position in the air. I also firmly agree with you guys about the uniqueness of this songs music. Like it really grabs you and won't let go. The Jazz reactor you watched was very interesting in how he described the music, I really enjoyed that. There was a lot of that I did not know as I'm not a musician. I think I may agree with the other Patron member and say, this is hands down THE BEST SONG EVER. And that says a lot because I absolutely LOVE Serendipity too. There is quite a bit more to learn about "Lie" and I'm sure you will as you go through this journey. I don't know if anyone else said this, but as you know one of the great things about BTS music is that it has a way of appealing to everyone in some way and sometimes in different ways and the same is true for BTS themselves. So, for the BTS Universe, "Lie" has one story and as others have said, just wait til you get into that - MIND BLOWING WILL HAPPEN. But for Jimin himself as he wrote the lyrics, I'm not sure where exactly I heard this discussed, but I know you were asking what the lie was and for Jimin personally, the lie was lies he told himself about who he needed to be, who he was, and the criticism he had for himself. So the lies were internal for Jimin. If I remember correctly, he said it was actually a hard song for him to perform because it was so personal, especially before he probably worked through those feelings. I imagine that there was also a certain catharsis that occurred and probably pushed him into working on those inner voices, much like I feel for Yoongi and his D-Day tour, and how the rapline must have felt singing Outro: Tear every night on tour. Well moving along, it's October - ugh 8 more months of content to catch up on. I love it, but wow why does one need to sleep? Hehehe

I have randomly watched a few other reactors, but none of them have grabbed me enough to make me subscribe and definitely this is the only Patreon I've joined. I really love the stage mixes, but I do agree that for some songs it can be a distraction and you can miss the nuance of just a really good performance. Plus I think some are better than others. I think you definitely lost some of the effect with the stage mix for "Lie". And now I will confess, I just spent a few hours perusing YT for more performance videos of "Lie" and this is not the first time I have done this. You get the change to learn little more about the song when you watch The Rise Of Bangtan. Jimin is going to talk a bit what the lie is at one episode what is coming to your way. Also the song will have a new point of view when you see the bangtan universe starting with the I need you music video. It might be a little shock for you as it was to all of us.

Not only do I get to re-watch something I love and feel like it's the first time again through the reactor(While also feeling like I'm watching it with a friend 💜), but I also get to hear different feelings, thoughts, insights and interpretations that it invoked in them! My favorite reactors that give me the same vibe as you two are Andrew Berg, Caitlin Benson, Michael Beveraggi, Cedric Gegel, Sir Austin, Waleska Herrera(And her brother Efra), Landon Mark, LoveTheBasics, Max Beaumont, Roscoe, JohnReavesLive, Mexinese Family and Whatchagot2say(All of which are my favorite content creators who have some knowledge in music, film, dance etc.)! Waleska Herrera and her younger brother actually interviewed the Drummer (His name is Khan) that was/is apart of a band called Ghost, they worked with BTS for a lot of their live performances/concerts. They were the band who played with BTS for the Tiny Desk concert, the MTV Unplugged and the BBC Radio one performances.💜 There's also a dance studio YT channel called STEEZY that started doing some reactions to Kpop artist and they did a reaction to BTS's dance line, one of the reactions had the choreographer of Jimin's Serendipity choreo as a guest.

You mentioned that you would react to other reactiors, I think it would be great if you reacted to other reactors that specialize in one thing - like you did with Andrew Berg. For example if you did a dance practice or a dance performance reaction you could react to a dancer/professional dancer reactor, if you did a reaction to one of the rap songs you could react to a rapper reactor and so forth, you get my point. I just think it would be really interesting because they have a totally different perspective, could present certain theories and concepts in that specific subject - we all would learn something :)

I went to bed early and woke up at 4:30 was so excited concert started at 5am heard mic drop run Bts and half of run that was it for almost an hour. I had to go over to twitch to watch the rest of the concert. There was so much I missed but what I did see was fantastic as always. I just love the guys they have change my life so much for the better I would do it all over again for them.

He danced and twirled completely blindfolded, I’m shocked he even knew he was facing the stage. I seriously can’t wait till you start the MAMA and MMA performances. It is an understatement to even say that these are the best live stages in the world, no exaggeration and not biased. I haven’t seen stages better than MAMA 2018 and MMA 2019. I have a personal attachment to MAMA 2016, because that was when they got their first Artist Of The Year Daesang. I was watching that live, can you imagine what I felt? It was a big, big deal and you’ll see why in the future rise of bangtan episodes. I remember watching MAMA 2016 live in a hotel because I was visiting Korea at the time. Jhope started performing Boy Meets Evil and just as I was getting immersed, Lie suddenly started playing, and we all collectively lost our shit because it was so unexpected. I had shivers down my spine when I realized he was completely blindfolded

2022-10-14 16:37:08 +0000 UTCI know a few people have mentioned it, but if you wanna be wowed by the blindfold dancing, just wait til you watch MAMA 2016… but you can’t do that yet cause you need to react to several other songs first… Blood Sweat and Tears (the absolute crown jewel of metaphor, symbolism, cinematography, you name it, it’s the best), Boy Meets Evil (talk about mind blowing dance 🤯) and Fire (which, outside of it being a banger, doesn’t necessarily require an in depth analysis). The BS&T music video is part of the BU, but - and this may be an unpopular opinion, ARMY, let me know - don’t let things being part of the BU make you think you have to do them all in order or that the lyrics are part of the storyline. They can sometimes overlap themes, but the songs stand alone as their own art as well. Some MVs are MUCH more BU heavy, but BS&T is more tangential… kind of conceptually part of the BU, but has an ocean’s worth of depth of its own.

I was thinking during Jimin's Intro video~ the person who is always a therapist and a support to others rarely had that support themselves. Who is going to save him? For the second verse, I think "You want me" is his innocent, past self(maybe,) and "I've lost my way" is his current self in the song. It's hard to know who you are when you don't like yourself. You change and grow, but the growth- if based from a negative mindset- can be more like an abscess. You have to heal to grow healthily. You have to draw a line between what is actually you and what is not. "An overgrown lie is trying to swallow me whole. My last thoughts about the song and what the musician, Jared, and Jordan said (there is only defeat; there is no hope.) is that yes, negative thoughts will never completely go away. Remember~ BTS is a mindset; the bullets may keep coming, but they have a shield. Anyone with depression, anxiety, and/or anything else will come to realize this at some point in their journey to healing. It doesn't end, but that doesn't mean we can't find a way to defend ourselves. Don't forget shields are weapons too. We can fight back. There is hope.

The negative voice we hear sometimes is an echo of things said to us in the past. Those words can become internalized, and it's no longer some else's words but our own. It's like punishing words "for not being good enough." The pain is self inflicted because it's a near constant drowning of negativity. It's torment~ hell.

After watching The Intro to Jimin, it was fresh in my mind that Jimin is careful with his words in order to protect those who's minds get~ caught in a lie. He knows what it's like. In the song, he paints a brief reminiscent picture of the time before when he was innocent of the lies he tells himself about his worth. I think "Lie" is now my new favorite song. Wow

I recall seeing footage where Jimin said that he doesn’t really like performing it because it reminds him of dark times in his mind. I hope he reaches a point where he can transcend that and perform this masterpiece without being emotionally hurt by doing so.

RM spoke about the song in a Vlive about the Wings album, and he summarised it perfectly, how it is Jimin lying to himself and blaming himself for his perceived shortcomings: “Jimin wrote all the lyrics. I didn’t know. It was written so well. Recently Jimin told me this. Jimin said he was really happy recently. He got better and is more relaxed. Before our debut since we were trainees he was quite similar to me. He would always blame himself for his own short-falling. I’m not good, I’m not enough, I’m doing wrong, I’m bad. He said he thought like that all the time. Though I keep running I am trapped in lies, return my smile. Putting oneself in a corner. We talked about that and agreed a lot. Jimin told me this story. He thought about his past self while writing. He was deep in lies in the past. I blamed myself, regardless of the truth. I always thought about my flaws and my mistakes. Even if others didn’t, I would blame myself. He wrote Lie while thinking of that time. He wrote it after hard work, the producer said it was so well written and goes with the song, he said it would be amazing. Even now I can’t imagine if this song wasn’t those lyrics. There is nothing complicated about the lyrics. They are perfect. I think working on the lyrics, Jimin was able to prove himself once more. It was a step forward. That’s what I think.”

In his heart he doesn’t think that he is worthy of being an idol and that he is cheating us, the fans. Obviously, this is not the case, but we don’t always feel confident that we are good enough. I think Jimin is now more confident that he is an outstanding performer. Wings was way back in 2016. Filter is very confident LOL. Lie is on the Wings album. This album is almost entirely part of the Bangtan Universe. Wings revolves around the book Damien by Herman Hesse. This album it a masterpiece itself. Blood, Sweat, and Tears is the title track. As psychologists, I think you will really like this album. PS I think BTS should be required listening to all psych majors.

It's a medly of boy with evil and lie which are jimin and jhopes songs on the album. 2022-10-14 05:22:14 +0000 UTCi think this might be my favorite reaction from y’all yet! when i say y’all just get it you really do. i’ve never seen another reactor appreciate BTS’ music like this and especially not solo work. this is one of my favorite songs of all time and i could drone on for hours about it and my interpretation. i was there for the release of this song and it was truly life changing. i love every BTS’ song i’ve ever heard, which is insane bc i’m very picky about my music, but jimin’s solos have always been my favorite in personal preference next to jhope and i’m not jimin biased either. i’m an ot7 bias to my core. i think his solo album, often called pjm1 by army, is my most anticipated of all the albums. we’ve been getting a lot of pics of him in the studio and he’s referenced working on it and i practically start to vibrate from excitement thinking about it. it’s going to be amazing. also, totally off topic. jordan, what tea brand are you drinking?? i love tea and you have me so intrigued now lmao.

I was intrigued when I learned from Classical musicians disect this music and lyrics. This ranks high on my list of Jimin's performances. His dancing reflects the angst he conveys in this song. 2022-10-14 02:03:16 +0000 UTCI think the lie is about what his thoughts were telling him. Like no matter well you think he did, he himself thinks otherwise because its about every single detail. (and I would say most of the members specially Jimin and Jungkook during performances/concerts often give what seems like to us 150% but to them only 30% or even less). Jimin was also dealing with himself and how he truly felt vs how he had to make himself look a certain way or act a certain way to seem more "manly"(because of them being a hiphop based group in the beginning and the stereotype that often comes with hiphop). Actually in one clip (I believe it was in a bon voyage episode) Jungkook and Jimin took a selfie and Jimin asked to see how it came out but Jungkook, Taehyung, and Jhope were saying that "men don't check their selfies" and "mean shouldn't do that" and etc.. and Jimin said: "here you go again, what the heck is "men"?". I really feel that Jimin is a big reason why there isn't sm toxic masculinity in bts (or just even in Kpop). Because he isn't afraid to say and do what he wants. I'm so glad he finally accepted who he was and was no longer forcing to be something he's not.

Honestly- if you're able to, I'd recommend listening to the whole album in order? Its all apart of the BU but when you get there, listening in order just makes it all so unbelievably cosmic. I was in my last year of college, my family was becoming more estranged than they already were, and my job was breaking my camel’s back for the final time. I felt alone in a crowd of loved ones, aching without a sound to life. Then, Lie creeped in. It breathed a mood into the silence. A prickle of something. The truth of my situation. (Ironic, right?) Lie will always allow me the freedom of movement and expression. When I couldn’t get out of my struggle of life, I felt understood with the lyrics and dancing the routine. Even though that sad phase in my life is history, I can’t forget that song, my favorite song ever. Through the hurt and the healing that could be had through this song, it will forever have a good place in my heart.

I can’t really explain it but it’s the feeling that gives me shivers and I have to listen to it with my eyes closed. The first time I heard the wings album I was In tears. it’s hit after hit without a break! Stigma and boy meets evil all give me that similar spooky feeling with the beat. -About reacting to reactors I think it’s a great idea it’ll be hilarious. It's the intro to their performance that night and Jimin and Jhope shared the stage for about 2-3 min doing a small part of their choreography for their singles from this album. It's iconic! There were so many haters accusing him of wearing a blindfold he could see through. That was until ARMY pointed out that he's literally lead onto the stage by Hobi first, then Hobi crosses the stage to his position. Idk what videos can and can't be shown on YouTube but I will send a FM video from the performance just to guide you in the right direction but like I said, not sure about YouTube guidelines. Regardless, I'm sure if great footage of this moment is out there and can be shown there is an ARMY that can guide you to it. To me the lie is his inner voice telling him he's not good enough. He knows it's a lie, but he can't stop the negative self talk and he spirals deeper and deeper into the abyss. His brain is telling him constant lies. When he says "please find me that was innocent"....I think he is talking about childhood...when most of us are bursting with confidence until the negative self talk and opinions of others start to affect us. Jimin has struggled in the past with low self esteem and body dysmorphia issues. Jimin has said that Jin has helped him in the past with his mindset. I remember Jin in a livestream encouraging ARMY to talk themselves up and give themselves compliments as a first step to "self love". Maybe Jin taught Jimin how to reset that inner voice? Oh Andrew Berg...he gives such great musical theory breakdowns. I love watching all types of reactors and always look at every BTS song from different reaction points of views. I will watch videos pertaining to musical theory, choreography, music producers, video producers etc and get so many different perspectives. Now I know exactly why the word "lie" in the chorus gives me chills every single time. My one word would be "tortured". Trust me when I tell you that ARMY have been saying "Screw the Grammys" for a long, long time now. Thanks for another great reaction.

The snippet of the classical musicians (in his video) reacting was very short and I do recommend you watch that too. Another is professional dancers explaining how Jimin moves with bone crushing force in his dances, his explosive power and speed of movement is incredible. It really helps to watch the professionals reacting not just to Jimin but the BTS members and getting a full insight to the amazing talent and skill they display (agree it would be a great idea to react to them too). He can't escape feeling like he is not good enough and admits to getting swallowed up by the lies he feeds himself. He once said he didn't eat for 10 days because he was so insecure about his weight. It is an inner battle between his 2 sides his real self and insecure self and his insecure self is always feeding him the lie but he can't escape it. Also, you have to look at this song in the larger picture of the Wings Album which is based on the book Demian by Hermann Hesse and the teachings of the philosopher Nietzsche. The Wings Album gave each member a solo song to express their individual stories and I believe Lie for Jimin expresses his struggle with his life as a KPOP idol. Wings is a full concept album and the book is key to understanding the Album. The book is a coming of age story about the journey to find your true self and leaving the innocence of childhood behind, facing temptation and embracing both the light and the dark, good and evil. The song Blood Sweat and Tears is the centerpiece of the Album and it is also a masterpiece. Honestly, the whole album is.

"BTS, Burn The Stage." Hence why he would practice dancing every night until 4am only to wake at 6am to repeat his daily schedule. Even JK says that Jimin was a hardworker, both V and Jimin mentioned he almost got cut from debuting with BTS 8 times. Jimin also had a smaller idol trainee window to make the final cut for BTS's final group. Jimin was known for being a perfectionist and for being extremely hard on himself. If he couldn't hit a note, or get his stage quality/performance exactly right or make the slightest mistake he would feel excessively bad, extremely guilty, and overly critical about himself and be weighted down by/with the negative emotions he would "drown in." RM stated (he helped Jimin write "Lie") that Jimin would blame himself for anything and everything that would go wrong, even when it wasn't his fault. RM suggested that those were Jimin's "Lies."

Jimin never felt like himself in his body. he was different from other people. and he is not good at sharing what is going on inside him. so that was drew him to the contemporary dance. he liked the fact that he can show how he feels instead of telling it. and he forget all around him and just live in the music and his movements. he also never miss a beat it´s like clockwork. and being a dancer myself i can see how it effects him. i have the same feeling. i was immerged into the melody of the song. i did not see the people looking at me witch i normally hate. jimin is do relatable to me that´s why he is my bias. he has always had a softer side and Busan is know for having these tuff and cool guys and all Jimin wanted was to fit in but he was to feminine and cute. he played on his cuteness to gain friends i think but it was also a part of who he is. i think Jimin still feels trapped witch he often talk about without reviling the reason. he just said he felt lonely and his friends made him realize that he has 3 good friends outside of BTS and he also have his members and family so why would he still feel lonely? i think he wants a relationship but it´s hard for him to meet someone. and even harder when everyone want to know everything about you. and he is a shy person but he can befriend people easy because he is kind but when it comes to him opening up he is to shy. a girlfriend would be good for him, someone he can talk to about his feelings someone who wont judge you. i truly hope he finds someone all i want is for him and the rest of the members to be happy.

Others have mentioned it, but the way I always interpreted the "lie" based on everything RM and Jimin have said over the years, is that the Lie Jimin was trapped in was, was the lie that he had to be behave in a certain way and perform perfectly - "don't be like a prey, (be) smooth like a snake" = "don't be weak, be perfect, confident and strong" Jimin used to struggle both with negative thought spirals ("I'm not good enough") and also the pressure to have some sort of "manly" image, both as a male teenager and as a member of a hip-hop-based group. Jimin tried to put on a performance of what people wanted for years, but living a lie is unsustainable. Thankfully, Jimin has a high emotional intelligence and came to realize that he couldn't continue that way - I fully believe that he wrote and performed Lie as a way to say goodbye to that old way of pretending and to begin the process of accepting his true self fully and to stop hiding the fact that he's human (imperfect) and also has a very loving and gentle soul that doesn't necessarily fit the hypermasculinity that the world tries to push onto young men.

2022-10-13 23:42:00 +0000 UTCguys thank you so much for these two amazing reactions! once again i love how much of a deep dive you guys take into their music. as a music nerd i love talking about and listening to others talk about the details and the hidden meanings behind every thing. as to the meaning of "lie", as doolset's note stated at the beginning of the translation of the lyrics, jimin wrote lie about his anxiety lying to him abou not being good enough and the praise he's receiving being undeserved. his perfectionism lying to him that he has to be and do better to be worthy of all the love he receives from his fans. it's basically about imposter syndrome that he was struggling with a couple of year ago. he has stated multiple times that struggles with these thoughts way less now and has grown from it. side note; am i the only one who's not a big fan of stage mixes as a first time reaction to a performance? idk i feel like for example the performance with the blindfold would be way more impressive if seen as a whole. i feel like stage mixes sometimes take away from the quality and integrality of a performance.

From RM’s explanation of the lyrics, and how hard we’ve seen Jimin be on himself - my takeaway was the lie is the lies he tells himself about himself which kept him in a negative mindset for so long. BTS is so deep with their lyrics, music and performances but this just adds one more amazing layer of epicness (😁) to the mix!! Jimin was in a bad place in his life, blinded (the blindfold) by the lies he told himself, that he wasn’t good enough, he was bad, a lot of self doubt and even body image problems with chronic dieting thinking he was overweight. He’s come so far from his insecurities that I’ve read that he doesn’t like performing the song because it brings him back to this dark place in his life. The musical analysis is fantastic in highlighting that it’s not hopeful, he’s drowning in the lies he tells himself that he can’t break free from. Great job as usual. I came over after watching Serendipity which was magical as always. BTS creates art in every MV and live performance. Every note, movement, hand gesture etc adds to each and every song. About the lie and what the song goes about. you need to know that behind the heavenly smile and all the happy and lovely Jimin is, there is something darkest. Jimin is one of the most hated if not the most for bts haters. Besides he fought with a dark era during a long time at the beggining, because he thought he wasn't good enought, he didn't eat many days just to lose weigh (JK even had a big fight with him for this), also he thought his voice wasn't enough good. He is sooooo perfectionist, but this sometimes is good, but also bad when you let that obssesion for perfecctionism drowns you dawn and everything is dark. Lie talk about this feelings, because his worst moment was in that time. Jimin has two faces, the lovely one and we all love him for it, but also a complicated person, because he has a complicated soul and never shows everything, for me it's like an iceberg, you just see a beautiful and amazing part, but under that there is a whole and big part we don't see and maybe not that happy and beautiful as the top he let us see. I think he is the more complex of the bts members.

My friend when listening to "First Love" Suga said that his voice is like audio porn...🤣🤣🤣 I don’t know how you will fit into the plot, but my advice is to take a large notebook... Jimin used to thing he was not good enough - he couldn’t sing well enough and was told he was always slow in keeping the beat in dancing the choreo. He spent hours in the studio and it was Jin who helped him out. From my understanding it was the lie he believed about himself and finally breaking through and was able to have a more balanced view of what he could do - released he has only improved with his self confidence and encouragement.

I always thought the LIE are these negative thoughts. But then, only he really knows the whole meaning behind the lyrics.

You'll learn more about this in their first docu-series "Burn the Stage" that jimin was very scared and doubted his ability to successfully perfom this live because of how difficult it is to sing & dance to this particular song at the same time. They even had to bring down the song like 1/2 an octave (if I remember correctly) because he couldn't hit all the high notes while performing both the vocals and choreo live. Many other idols & trainees have tried to do (dance) covers of Lie and they struggle greatly as well. Vocal covers are even more rare because the high notes. A full vocal/dance cover is basically impossible 😅

He always thought he is not good enough and had many regrets after his performances. I think the Lies he is refering to and wants to escape from are the Lies his brain tells him after a performance: - You can‘t sing - You made mistakes - You are not good enough There is a video of him crying because he had s voice crack on stage. Also if im not missunderstood, the lie that jimin talks about is that he had to fake his masculiniy in their debut years, because they were like doing a hip hop theme and I supose hip hop mans were supose to be masculine (I dont really know why but it was or is like this) so the lie that he is fighting is his feminity being hidden because "a man" can not be femenine. (This is total bullshit, wear makeup if you please, try new hairstyles, new clothes that might not be for your gender, but clothes dont have gender so you can try a skirt if you like, paint your nails and be free!!!)
