The Silence of the Lambs Reaction

The Silence of the Lambs Reaction

Comments

Hannibal (2001) and Manhunter (1986) are the 2 other great movies in this series. I would skip Red Dragon and Hannibal Rising, personally

I'm amazed Hella and Chi had the courage to sit through this movie. I cannot.

Hella, the killer didn't have surgery. Just before he backed up into the frame of the camera, he tucks his manly parts back between his legs. Chi, you need to go back and watch that scene. You don't see his "junk."

Great reaction! You wanna know something scary? The character Buffalo Bill was actually inspired by an actual person named Ed Gein, who was known to make suits, furniture and even a mask out of skin of women. Most of the skin came from women who were recently buried after their funeral, I think it's only been proven that he killed two women in total. However, there's rumors that the number of his victims is higher than that.

The 3rd victim found was the first woman Bill killed. Clarice reasoned that he weighted the body down in the river so that it would not be found until much later, so as not to clue the authorities to the fact that it was his first victim... because he knew the first victim from where he lived. That is how Clarice realizes the town that Bill is in. (It can be hard for you ladies to understand all the criminals thoughts and the forensic reasoning, but you still do alright more of the time than you might think... and it can be difficult for us to figure out too, sometimes.)

Wow, I had forgot that Bulldog from Frasier was in this film. (I haven't seen this movie since the 90s.)

(Of course, that was as an adult; as a kid I usually just walked right into bad situations and got beat up or robbed... usually both. But sometimes that's unfortunately the way one learns prudence & perception of potentially harmful situations/settings.)

It is a sort of balancing act; you don't want to turn to stone in never being open to helping someone apparently needful of help in the moment, but also you must stay safe & keep from being overly taken advantage of to the point of getting hurt. I've always tried to remain open to opportunities for helping out people in the moment, on the off-chance that my help is really needed... but also always tried to pause for a few moments to observe the surroundings more closely or ask a probing question or two... and there have been a few instances over the decades that I was glad I took time for discretion & perception because it turned out to be a situation of deception and danger.

The reason Lector was not executed for Miggs is the same reason he was not already executed for the other murders he committed prior to capture: he was officially declared permanently insane, and thus not subject to the death penalty for his crimes.

If you want to see a continuation then you should watch the movie Hannibal was released in 2001 if I remember rightly. Always fun to see your reactions.

Phoenix911

The line I found most ironic was at the end when Lector said he had to go because he was "Having an old friend for dinner!!!! Another GREAT job ladies. This movie is SO intense, you just can't look away.

Michael Goldberg

You ladies are doing an amazing job with your movie choices lately. If you want to see who actually caught Lecter initially, you should watch the movie The Red Dragon. It shows how Lecter was caught, and literally ends right where this movie begins. It is a great movie as well. Not sure if you caught the meaning of Lecter's last words to Clarice, but he said, "I'm having an old friend for dinner", and he meant he was literally going to eat Dr. Chilton, who he hated. Loved the tension from both of you once Clarice entered Bill's house. Doing great ladies. Keep it up!
