Sans animation this time around of course.
This project actually took a bit of time to conceptualize in my head despite being a seemingly simple remake. If you've been reading all of my commentaries, you'll probably remember that I generally don't like my remakes because I feel like I end up missing the spirit of the original in some way. So this time around (this also being the first real remake in a very long time I think), I was much more consciously aware of what I should be doing.
So right away, if you have access to my scraps, you'll notice the earliest drafts are very different in terms of color vs. the original. Luckily for me I snapped out of that fairly quick and ended up with a color scheme that was much more faithful to the original, albeit with much more dramatic contrast between the warm and cool colors.
I explicitly did not want to reuse Garry for this remake despite a similar lookalike also being present in the original. Our handsome Orc that is being ridden is the same from q21 - squeezer, although what a difference a month makes; he's gotten quite the glow up. Meanwhile the Orc that is riding him is the same evil Orc from #98 - corruption and #94 - living deliciously before that, so for this month you actually have the misfortune of seeing him twice. He's not the most popular Orc in my collection of Orc OCs, but I really can't think of any other Orc I have on hand that would fit the themes for this project. I could've self-inserted Rykarr but I still have an aversion to self-inserting (no pun intended, and if you've been reading my commentaries you'll understand why I feel that way too).
Time will tell how I feel about this remake, and if I still consider it a success in the future, but for now I'm more than satisfied with the results.
