have mercy/lord have mercy was famously said by Elvis Presley in his signature deep voice, on stage, right before he shoved mike in his mouth. it was during his performance of Polk Salad Annie, in Las Vegas in 1970. the phrase is also in his song Burning Love. "Mercy, Mercy" (sometimes referred to as "Have Mercy") is a soul song first recorded by American singer/songwriter Don Covay in 1964. "Have Mercy" is also a jamaican song by Mighty Diamonds from 1976. The phrase has been used in various forms of media, including theater and film, throughout the 20th century. It became especially prominent in the context of African American church music and blues. The phrase appears in various forms in literature dating back to the 18th century. For example, in the 1700s, it was common in sermons and religious texts, reflecting its use in prayer and supplication. - In music, "Lord have mercy" has been used in spirituals and gospel songs for many years. One of the earliest recorded instances is in the 19th century, particularly in African American spirituals, where it was a common refrain. - A notable example is the song "Lord, Have Mercy" from the early 20th century, which has been covered by various artists over the decades. It has, of course, biblical roots.

I don't know if the writers had planned this at that point but Joey's comment about "slow swimmers" to Chandler at the wedding in 8x01 (when Monica said she wasn't pregnant) hits different now. The scene with Chandler and Monica at the end of E21 always makes me cry πŸ’”πŸ˜ It's so heartbreaking but I agree that it's also heartwarming. I think it resonates with a lot of people because fertility issues are unfortunately so common. Everyone wants to get pregnant and have a baby naturally, that's normal. I see some people shaming people who want that because there are so many children who are waiting to be adopted and desperately need homes, which is true, but no one should be shamed for wanting a biological child. I also commend Courteney for doing this storyline as she was dealing with her own fertility issues at the time and had several miscarriages while filming the show. I'm very torn about who Phoebe should be with. I love both Mike and David individually and with Phoebe and Lisa has great chemistry with both Paul and Hank. Though David has only been in a few episodes over the course of the show, he's been apart of it from almost the beginning and he and Phoebe have a lot more history. And even though Mike didn't appear until S9 we got to see more of the relationship dynamic between him and Phoebe. As someone said about Phoebe's "4-0 wunk", she meant to say 401K, which is a workplace retirement savings plan in the US. As Phoebe is mostly self employed it is unheard of to her. As a non-US person I didn't get this joke for a LONG time πŸ˜† As others have said, Zack is played by John Stamos, who is most known for playing Jesse Katsopolis (Uncle Jesse) in Full House (of which the final season was filmed on the same stage as Friends). He was also in ER, General Hospital, Glee, Scream Queens and You, as well as several Broadway productions. And I love how Janice's appearances are always so unexpected πŸ˜‚ Fun facts: In 9x20 at the soap opera roof party, Monica says "Have Mercy!", the John Stamos' character's catchphrase on the show. John's wife at the time, Rebecca Romijn, guest starred in 4x06 as the "dirty" girl that Ross dated. He starred in the TV show Grandfathered, which is about him finding out he has a son with his past girlfriend, played by Paget Brewster who played Kathy in S4. He also guest starred as a reproductive abuser, a man who fathered over 20 children on Law & Order: SVU (11x22). Kim Harris who plays the lady at the department store who sprays Phoebe with cologne is the same who played her alleged "best friend from high school" in 9x14, the owner of the overpriced wedding dress store in 7x17 and the casting director at the audition where Joey sticks his hand in his pants becauseΒ he's got a hernia in 6x04. When Ross describes the layout ofΒ the MetΒ to Joey, it is mostly true to the real layout. The Egyptian exhibits are indeed directly to the right upon entering the Museum's great hall. The Mesopotamian exhibit however, is located up the grand staircase and to the left. Ikea as a name is actually banned in Sweden because of the store and Stockholm IS in fact the capital (in case you don't know). Goofs/continuity/character errors: IVF should have been presented as an option for Chandler and Monica. Her inhospitable environment and his low motility sperm wouldn't matter since the IVF process creates an embryo using her egg and his sperm in a clinical environment which is then re-inserted. But they had already done an IVF/surrogacy story with Phoebe and the writers wanted to show different types of motherhood/pregnancy on the show: Surrogacy and IVF with Phoebe's triplets for Frank & Alice, unplanned pregnancy/single/unwed mother with Rachel & Ross and adoption with Monica & Chandler. You could even count Ross, Carol and Susan's situation with Ben too. In my opinion it was very groundbreaking for the 90s/early 00s. There should be no issue for Phoebe with Rachel using the gift certificate to the spa. The purchase of the certificate is what she should've taken issue with. Also, once a gift certificate from any business establishment is ripped it is considered invalid. While Phoebe is massaging Rachel she calls Rachel "a high maintenance tight-ass" but in 6x12 she picks Rachel over Monica as her hypothetical girlfriend because Rachel is more easy going while Monica is too high maintenance.Β Then again, the episode also determined that Phoebe is flaky and will say anything. E21 opens with the gang talking about Joey kissing Charlie at the party "last night". However, the end of the previous episode showed Chandler tricking Monica and Phoebe into attending the play (where they are wearing different clothes). Chandler asks if Charlie is a girl by saying that he missed most of the party but he was present at the moment Ross first met her at Central Perk. In E22, the woman in the dressing room who overhears and agrees that it is annoying when parents put babies on the phone had no way of knowing that Emma is a baby. In E22 when Zack first gets the beer, he asks for a coaster but then proceeds not even to use it when he gets up to go to the bathroom or when Monica says that dinner is ready. In E22, Joey doesn't know what surrogacy is but in 4x11 Phoebe explains it to him when she is going bmto be one for Frank and Alice. However, it is understandable that he forgot it after 5 years. In E21, Joey is very capable of remembering lines. However, the exact opposite was said in 9x06. In E21, the certificate Rachel handed the desk clerk is clearly not the same one Phoebe ripped as you can tell it is cut and taped back together. In E22 when Ross is trying to reach Charlie, instead of calling Joey at home, he could just call her cell phone.

yup... Joey laughed back in season 8 when Ross said he'd be happy to help him if he ever as lady problems ... Joey's "who was i hurtin'" question... apart from other answers, even Rachel, clearly, looked somewhat hurt or at least not pleased by being randomly publicly inserted into a sexual fantasy with 2 people who she's not into. Monica thinks nobody would watch Chandler online? ... Monica, it's the internet. you can upload 5 second long video of your father's shoulder ...and someone somewhere will get off on that...

I always think about how hard it was for Courtney Cox to do this story arc as her infertility troubles as Monica was also her real life struggle. She has been very open about her multiple miscarriages while filming Friends.

MrsLolly27

Yes Chandler's possible sperm donor is John Stamos. Besides playing Uncle Jesse he was known as Rebecca Romijn's first husband in real life. She portrayed Mystique in the 2000 X-Men; most importantly she played the dirty girl in Season 4, where Ross didn't like going to her apartment to make out cause it was a complete mess

MrsLolly27

At 21:18 you said you were missing the joke: Phoebe said she had good medical and dental benefits plus a "4-0 wunk" She was talking about a 401k.
