Some great comments. I like that you enjoyed the episode so much despite being confused. It's still a bit of a head-scratcher for me, but I believe that, like "Nightmares", the episode deals with the characters' fears (and future). Willow in her "costume" does not believe that she has developed into a cooler person and is gay, but that she is, in fact, still the shy, studious nerd in "lame" clothes and the others can see that she's "just wearing a costume". Xander seems to not be able to escape his basement, which he ends up in again and again with his father screaming at him, while Giles takes even Spike under his wing. Both Willow and Buffy tell Xander that they are ahead of him and Giles also says that "the others went ahead". I think X. is still scared of being left behind. Giles, obviously, is Buffy's surrogate father, but the stroller that Olivia pushes is empty. Someone else already said we see O. crying later in the crypt with the still empty stroller. Giles ends up on stage again, not the first time he's been performing in this season (while going through an existential crisis). Maybe he regrets not having become a musician? He also says to the first slayer that, of course, she had no watcher. I think this echoes his fears/feelings of not being needed anymore since Buffy's "grown up".

2023-05-26 22:18:10 +0000 UTCI've been waiting for your reaction to the Snyder cameo and it didn't disappoint lol. Glad your confusion didn't detract from your enjoyment of the episode. This is a contender for my favorite finale, it captures the surreality of dreams so well. I don't know if you caught it but Willow's line "I have a whole problem with opera" is a reference to "Nightmares." I've also thought the Cheese Man had great villain potential.
