Is Arrested Development a Classic?

I came a bit late to watching Arrested Development, never catching it in its original run, but instead finding it in reruns. My first time watching it was completely out of order, and I had to figure out how all these plotlines and characters fit together over the course of three seasons. It was confusing.

Over time I gradually pieced it together, and grew to really enjoy the show. Before then, I had a few friends who were avid fans of the series, so I had a sense of what that fandom was like, without actually being a part of it. On the one hand, I felt like I missed out, but on the other, it gave me some perspective that I hope makes this video different from some others on the same show.

As usual, let me know if there are issues with the video. It ended up much bigger than I intended, though somehow longer than I expected. At one point I was sure this one was going to crack two hours. But I ended up cutting quite a bit of fluff, so here it is at a lean 1:55.

The next series will probably be longer (this one didn't even reach 100 episodes), but I suspect won't be quite so long a video. But who knows, it's hard to know what to expect sometimes!

Thanks to everyone for your continued support!

Comments

I know what you mean. When I started looking at some of the other videos on YouTube, I was disappointed to see how many of them tended to focus on the production side of things. Or when discussing the actual episodes, looked more at how they worked, rather than what they were saying. So I'm hopeful mine won't get lost in the shuffle because of that. Thanks for the kind words!

I think that simply by discussing the actual content of the show you've succeeded in making a unique retrospective. This is an incredibly difficult show to discuss because it's such a massive undertaking - I've deleted 4 (4!) versions of this comment because they were getting too long. It's ridiculous how much needs to be said just to put everything in context - but choosing not to focus on the periphery but the actual storyline itself (especially season 5) does a LOT to set this apart from other AD videos. So mission accomplished, IMO - I happen to think that the revival of AD paved the way for a new era in television (for better or for worse) as studios are now more than happy to reboot a franchise, and just by virtue of the impact it had on the industry it should be considered a "classic" but that's a massively long winded story for another time :) this was a treat to watch, thanks for being willing to put all the work in to make this video, I respect anyone willing to take on this behemoth of a story
