one of the hands-down best analyses of transphobia in the UK media i've seen to date. great stuff. (the 'gender recognition certificate' shite is nothing more than gatekeeping bullshit. i have been """living in [my] preferred gender role""" for almost a decade (since age 18) - still they haven't granted me one. it's bigotry and discrimination disguised as bureaucracy)

WOne of the slightly More legitimate of the these ‘concerns’ that I’ve read is about trans women competing in women’s sporting events and obviously consistently outperforming many cis women in certain events (athletics etc) what are you guys’s thoughts on this. Should we do sports differently, should we do gendered sports at all? Cheers, Tom

I personally can't stand Contra, so I'm always happy to see good support for trans people from anyone else. Especially if it is well done, which your video is. Shaun, you moved the Cyrillic Patreon names from the end to the beginning in the final version and after two days of bragging to my friends you almost gave me a hearth attack. On the upside now I'm first. :) Otherwise great video. There is a lot of similar rhetoric in Bulgaria too. And we are a far more conservative country to begin with, so the media is just a complete shitshow.

Another quibble: You say "In November this year". It is 2019 now.

I really appreciate this video as someone who has so often heard these "concerns" and knew that I believed that the rights of trans people trumped those "concerns", I didn't have a way to express this easily and this video really helped me recognize and understand why I believe that and how to neutralize some of those points of contention that are often used. Glad I became a patron and happy to have fallen down this rabbit hole of content from you and your friends. Cheers.

This is a quibble over something which is maybe slightly misleading - at 4 minutes you mention some of the opposition to LGBTQ people in the military. I think that the picture you are using is of protestors against don't ask don't tell, probably in support of LGBTQ participation in the military. In the context you are using it though it sounds like these people should be opposing LGBTQ participation in the military. Not a huge thing, but I feel like if there is any place where quibbles over minor implications would be heard, its more or less here.

It's not all terfs though, Owen Jones is probably the most vocal supporter of trans rights on the guardian. But then, even one of the columnists who weren't a well known terfs outed themselves a few months ago. There's a lot of terfs.

For one, the implication is that the person in that article went through all the effort of changing genders specifically to become a nanny. Even if it were true in that particular case, a wave of people starting HRT in order to become nannies is not something I would be concerned about at all. Also, there are plenty of instances of cis nannies assaulting and/or kidnapping kids. This is cherry-picking an instance of a trans person doing it and implying it's going to be a widespread problem. There's also the implication that men aren't suitable caretakers which is a whole other issue.

some feedback &amp; corrections: there are NO recorded cases of humans having testes AND ovaries, humans only ever have two gonads (except conjoined twins), and chimeric humans (who have a y-chromosome in only some of their cells) tend to have gonads which are both a mix of testicular &amp; ovarian tissue. It's theoretically possible to have one ball and one ovary, but there's no record of it ever happening. A better example is people who have a Y-chromosome in all their cells, but have been able to get pregnant without medical assistance, that also is rare, but there is at least one recorded case. <a href="https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2190741/" rel="nofollow noopener" target="_blank">https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC2190741/</a> also, i tried the lost penis analogy on a twitter TERF and she responded that "yes, so trans women are still men even if they remove their penises" . . . but I guess you anticipate that response with your next point.

Hey, great video. I'd like to just add that when you're discussing the UK Gender Recognition Act that it might be beneficial to the argument to point our the Gender Recognition Act in Ireland which is significantly more progressive (though not without its problems). And the world hasn't ended as a result! Info in the link below. Loved the video! Don't have anything particularly constructive to say but, you were the first left-tube (now breadtube?) channel that I found before realizing I was trans so this is just full circle seeing you talk about trans stuff. Happy new year and that donation is very kind!

Not to be pedantic (I loved the video!!) but I noticed that in one bit at around 17:50 you say ‘changing your gender’ and I know you didn’t mean it *that* way (as in, implying that trans people just decide to change genders), probably was just a language slip-up but I’d recommend changing it to something like ‘changing your legal gender marker’ cause I know some trans folks may have a problem with that wording (didn’t mean for any of this to sound patronizing or accusatory btw, English isn’t my first language and idk how to put this in the precise tone I want it in)

I love it Shaun. my only sadness is that I was planning on starting youtube-ing in your style by picking up on the niche of your style analysis, but focusing on the niche of media stories. damn. beat me to it!
