As I prepare to open the brick and mortar Stripping History museum in Clinton Iowa, I have had all my research materials shipped from Puerto Rico to Iowa. I just received the boxes today on my door step. I’ve been combing through sooooo much Striptease history to curate the perfect grand opening. I’m really trying to focus on some great hometown burlesque and striptease history to wet your whistle. Queen Zorima keeps popping up as a regular featured artist at the Liberty Theatre and beyond.
This clip is from January 7 1938 edition of the Quad Cities Times. A paper that is still in existence today. Interesting fact, my grandfather James Colby was a photojournalist for the QC Times and traveled the world with his photojournalism. Someday I may post some of his photos if you like.
For a while now, I have been researching Burlesque in this Quad cities area tied to Palmer school of chiropractic, Sally Rand, and this name “Zorima” keeps coming up. I’m finding out some fascinating things that I will reveal soon.
Palmer school of chiropractic has always been a bit of an obsession within my family. My aunt Susie graduated from there as well as my sister Annie, my best friend Nicole , and many other people that I’m close to. I basically grew up at Palmer school of chiropractic multiple times a week through my entire life. I remember, strolling down the hall of abnormal spines and mummified fetuses. I was always scared but intrigued . Chiropractic in the Quad cities is huge because of DD Palmer the founder of Chiropractic, his son, BJ Palmer and BJ son David Palmer. BJ Palmer had a deep connection to circus, folk, dancers, traveling folk, because obviously all these people traveling through suffered with spinal abnormalities or spinal injuries, or aches and pains from travel or dance, and he would provide much relief for them through the teachings of chiropractic. In fact, my sister Annie took us on a walk-through the Palmer house last week and I got to stand, once again, in the living room where Sally Rand entertained eight guests upon one of her visits to the Quad cities. It’s like all of this information has just been waiting for me to find it. It’s all out there, I’ve just had to dig deep and ask for help when needed. I’m very lucky because Jeremy is a great help in this project with me. Instead of buying me expensive gifts that I don’t want or need, when he feels romantic, he will look up facts for me the add depth to my research. It is the most romantic gesture anybody has ever given me. Often times I cry because their pieces of history that I have searched for and have eluded me, but With his OCD tendencies, he will continue down the rabbit hole long after I have given up at times. I think that’s what makes us work so well together. My ADHD and his OCD create an alphabet soup of historic love. And we will continue to feed you this historic love soup as long as you allow us. Thank you so much for your support. Your financial support and moral support. Give us the opportunity to continue our research and bring you new information. I cannot wait to show you what’s in my archival boxes through the upcoming weeks months and years. There’s so much history in those boxes. I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get through it all but I’m gonna try.sending you lots of love tonight as I’m preparing to make some new Stripping History videos for you. ❤️❤️❤️
