These two buildings, the brick one behind me and the grey one across the street, hold very special places in my heart. The brick building is not the same building I once lived in but now stands in its place. I actually lived in the grey building across the street first and my sister and her kids lived in this one.
303 S 2nd Street in LeClaire was once the home of my parent's photography studio, my home and gallery that was first called Giga Gallery (which is what my daughter used to call my dad), and then it was the home of my store 4 Miles 2 Memphis. When I lived there I painted stars on the stairs and had a phone booth in my dining room. 😂 It was very B52s meets Practical Magic. I remember 2-year-old Memphis finding ladybugs in that yard and saying, "Ew gross! I eat." Miles and my niece Abbie would run around and play dinosaurs there.
The 115 Davenport Street house was such an interesting place, too. It was also haunted as fuck! There's a can-can dancer mannequin doll that I had who used to stay in the corner of the room, usually motionless. One day though she went flying across the room and we all lost it. The fact that the house is gone definitely is strange. The basement of that house was also super terrifying. It was a limestone basement, like many other houses in the area. We used to say it was Buffalo Bill's basement, from Silence of the Lambs and NOT Buffalo Bill Cody which honestly would have been fitting, too. I wonder if anyone has felt anything in the new building???
I'll have to see if I can find photos from these houses. I'll see if I can conjure up any more of the ghost stories, too!
