Adventures with Amaya’s baby doll Briana. Also, there’s always room for Jello.

Well, I’m still not home. My flight was totally fucked so I found myself in Chicago with my niece who has been a lifelong nanny to a beautiful baby grrrl named Amaya. I’ll fly out today hopefully!

My niece Alaina has been helping raise Amaya since she was 2 months old. 6 years later they’re still rocking and rolling day in and out. I never grew up with a nanny, my parents usually couldn’t afford to even pay a babysitter when we were young. but I truly love this little baby girls parents. They have taken incredibly good care of my niece, supplied her with cars, shelter, a reasonable working wage and the security of mental health professionals when mental health professionals were difficult to find on many occasions. They have stood by Alaina like they would stand by one of their own children. Not elitist assholes, kind loving parents who are happy to parent people other than their own children. You know, community stuff.

Amayas parents are both in the psychiatric field and helping other people on a daily basis to cope with the stresses of the world. They have raised an amazing, socially aware, radical feminist and she’s only just begun! Anyhow, yesterday she chose to have her vaccination shot. Obviously she was having some nerves about it as would any human being the age of six who had to make such a choice. I know that I personally did not want to have to inject anything into my body. The thought was offputting at best and terrifying at worst. My love for my community led my heart to the action of injecting myself with this supposed cure all. We shall see how that choice plays out for me but I stand behind my choice because my community matters to me and I’m around so many people who are not in good health or are elderly that it makes sense that I protect those people I care about as well as myself. And Amaya came up with the same choice even though she had some fears. She was told that it was her body and it was her choice whether or not she wanted to take the vaccine and in her young mind, she was still aware enough about community and the importance of what’s happening around us to make the choice to take the vaccine. We spent the day celebrating to calm her nerves about having an injection so we decided to go find a Harry Potter Lego castle to put together after her shot so that she didn’t have to focus on the discomfort but could focus on the end prize of sitting together, having a fun Kiki, popping together some Legos Harry Potter style. Anyhow, it was a beautiful night and I truly loved spending time with her again!

Upon returning to my nieces home, I happened upon this interview with Jell-O Biafra. I’ve always had a lot of respect for how Jell-O Biafra has moved in this world. I first heard the Dead Kennedy’s in High school. My heart was immediately invested in his view on life. I’m sure it’s no surprise that I have molded much of my mind around his political ravings and rants.

So obviously I found this article extremely entertaining and informative even though it’s an oldie but a goodie. Feel free to give it a read if you like. I don’t expect anybody to agree with what he saying just because I find it interesting however it’s rare that I can maintain respect for a public figure for any length of time but for many reasons Jell-O keeps capturing my attention.

I have friends who perform to The dead Kennedys so I personally have not found a way to perform to one of their songs without mentally attaching it to my dear friend Yuli Padilla Who moves with an entrancing serpentine flow is she floor fucks her way through politically charged, incredibly intense early punk rock. Yes, I’m going to say it, back when punk rock meant some thing. I always think of her when I hear the Dead Kennedys so I leave this sacred space for her to take ownership of because I just don’t think I could do it any better. And if I can’t do it better, why occupy that space when she can. Who knows, maybe someday I will find the perfect dead Kennedys song that has not yet been stripped to buy one of my loved ones, LOL! But I guarantee that song will be hard to find.

Anyhow, enjoy the article, power to the people! Fuck corporations, all of them. I realize that I’m sucking corporate dick as I’m saying that, trust me I think about it often. But I have this incredible benefit of running around the country with my best friend recording the process, it’s some thing I love and just can’t turn my back on my Pickers crew. My road family. But I am excited for the day when I can walk away from weird entertainment contracts and politics that prioritize the almighty dollar over caring for the indigent, homeless, marginalized etc. Not gonna lie, I’ve always loved the thought of prioritizing social responsibility, shared wealth, humanity and ourdwindling natural resources above corporate greed. .😂🍾🎉

I will not be showing any photographs of Amaya because when I was young and stupid and new to fame, I showed photographs of my son and daughter and the world descended upon them and tried to destroy them and pick them apart. So I will protect a little Amaya from what my daughter and son went through as little impressionable babes, and I’ll just show you photos of her baby doll briana that she has kept with her through her entire life. Brianna comes with us everywhere, on almost every adventure, or at least she used to when I lived in Chicago.
