Post Roller Derby, just as I was entering burlesque. I had stripped and gay night clubs before but never anything like Burlesque. Nothing grandiose or heavily costumed, always just cheeky night club striptease fun. This was just as we were beginning to work on American pickers. I have been working with Mike for a little while, sorting, doing some bookkeeping, taking photographs, posting to eBay etc. This photo was taken either right before the show aired Or right after it aired? If this photo was taken after the show aired then it was 2009. I’m terrible with dates and so is Mike so I can’t even ask him, LOL! I believe this photo was taken in preparation for my very first large scale Burlesque production in which we sold out the theater at 1000 seats and had to add an additional 200 folding chairs taking the Capitol theatre to capacity for a total of 1200 people in the venue that evening.
I was so happy the evening of the big performance to look out into the audience and see Mike’s bright shining face in the front row hooting and hollering and supporting all of us locals. I always loved it when he would come to my roller derby bouts or Burlesque shows. Especially loved having him at the roller derby bouts because he is an EMT.
Interestingly, this exact theater is also where we held the Premier for American pickers in 2009, it was at capacity that evening as well🖤.
This photo was taken by joshua black wilkins One of the times he came out to Iowa to photograph me. I believe he also photographed me in Nashville as well a couple years later, I’ll need to go through my photos and check.
