When Doves Cry

Forever the new girl… That has always  been me. I’ve always been the new girl somewhere. I moved so many times  as a child that I can’t even remember how many times I moved, that  pattern also repeated itself throughout my adult years, that’s probably why I am the road dog you see before you today. 

Coming to Puerto Rico  and trying to find a Burlesque, Drag community to be a part of when I’m  only here two weeks out of every month can be very difficult but from the moment that I met Sylas Crow, at Nova Ley performing he encouraged  me and befriended me and supported all my crazy ideas so I knew that we  would be lifelong friends. 

I reached out to Sylas recently because I  wanted to put a new routine on stage but I didn’t want to wait until I  went back to the United States. He reached out to Desire Cardoza, mother  to House of Cardoza, and they both were so welcoming and encouraging!  It was incredible to walk into Nova Ley to perform with my friends and  have that same excited feeling that I would always get in Chicago when I  would walk in to perform with my Chicago friends.

The love and the  warmth were bountiful even through the loud music and language  barriers. I draw so many correlations between Puerto Rico and Chicago emotionally. Both places are full of passion and heart and tenacity and  talent. In both places you may feel like an outsider at first due to language barriers or different customs but you won’t feel that way for  long.

Both places have embraced me and challenged me and supported me.  I’m lucky to have spent my life in locations that I have loved so  deeply.

Thank you To House of aordoza and Nova Ley for allowing me to be a guest  in your home, your stage, your life. This club and Drag family will  always mean the world to me. Thank you for making this eternal outsider  feel like famil️y.
