It's been a little bit since the last set! These are as challenging as always - picking and creating an interesting story, finding a good composition for the opening frame, and balancing things so they flow reasonably.
This time I went with something I've actually never really done before - having characters emote strongly with their facial expressions and body language! I know the characters I draw are almost always incredibly stoic, but honestly that was just because I couldn't really do much else...
I thought this was a good time (I just had my 30th birthday yesterday) to really take a step towards at least spending time and effort into learning what makes characters interesting. That said, it was surprisingly engaging to draw especially once the basic frameworks and sketches come together. It feels like really saying something about what you're drawing!
Also surprising was the fact that the backdrop and surroundings became the main sticking point of difficulty instead! Usually stoic characters really can work well with most lighting setups so once the poses are done, it's just about detailing things up. But when the central focus is all about the emotions and interaction (outside of just standing there and looking cool), lighting truly can make or break a composition. I ended up using a lighting plan that I was familiar with, but that was only partially because I was too exhausted! I genuinely felt that the dramatic light and rain helped quite a bit with the scenes :)
I'd love to share more in the process videos coming up soon, so please look forward to those! Thank you so much for your kind support, and please let me know what you think as always ♥
