Day Off "Bloopers"

A new set is in the works!

But in the meantime, I'd like to share some of the discarded compositions from the recent set :) It's almost inevitable that it takes a few tries to get things right, especially when working with an unfamiliar presentation style and mood, so these trial and error attempts are really just part of the process!

The first blooper was an especially difficult one to leave behind, but I needed a more dynamic shot introducing them to the arcade. However, it did bring me to the idea of the arcade shooting game that you see in the final set.

The second blooper was a bit odd - I'm hardly new to portraits, but there was something about the lighting and mood that made it really difficult to get things feeling right for me!

Lastly, the third blooper was my initial set opener, but the angle and poses felt a little bit "too goofy" in my style. While these characters obviously do have a lighter side, it didn't seem quite in character  for them to be emoting that much, hence the abandoned attempt.

Overall, a worthwhile process to learn a lot more about my own style and presentation! Feel free to let me know what you think :)

The 3rd one surprised me lol

Thank you! The most interesting about art has to be the huge range of visual taste that everyone has, it's very cool to hear that you like one of the "deleted scenes" for its own merits!

GUWEIZ

I got you added now!

So cool! It's so interesting that something you regard as a "blooper", is something that someone else might even have preferred. At your skill level, I feel like it's less about finding the better images, but rather finding the images that's more to your taste. Doesn't necessarily make them better or worse for the average viewer. For example I would have loved to see the 3rd one finished since it is a bit different which excites me more than anything else. It shows another side to the characters previously unexplored, which makes them more three dimensional. Just some thoughts. :)

Strubey

That's very kind of you to say 😂

GUWEIZ

I entertained that thought, but the workload would have been way too much (even for me)!

GUWEIZ

I'm still working on a full character sheet style bit of illustration for her - similar to the Irena one :)

GUWEIZ

Thank you, it's pretty iconic for arcades isn't it?

GUWEIZ

Thank you for the kind words! Maybe one day I'll do another "fun" set :)

GUWEIZ

Your “bloopers” are better than my finished pieces 😂

Austin Grage

insane sketches, love it already

makibo

I love blooper moments!!

jinxPad

It would be funny if they tried to win a figurine of themselves. Or some other character from your verse (maybe even an enemy).

Vanaris

I have a different question, it's about the characters. As you do more portraits and slice of life stills the personalities start to show and become distinct. At first I thought they were both the same with different hairstyles depending on your mood/fancy at the time but then I found the works with both of them together. More digging and I discovered that your ponytailed muse is named Irena. Does her "sibling" have a name yet?

David Pevear

I loveee the crane game one

Swishy_Pants

Even though you refer to them as 'bloopers' I still think they would be amazing pieces in the end. I'd especially like to see the 3rd one finished despite being too 'goofy'. Loving your work and tutorial videos, I feel I'm learning so much 😊
