Drizzle (Full-res + Process Steps)

Recently I've been trying out a lot of slightly more vibrant colors, with lots of studio lighting setups experimenting with all kinds of effects! With this piece I wanted to quickly revisit a more dulled out and quiet palette with the good old greys and blues.

It was a bit tough figuring out how to get the straw coat to look right, I think I had to try for a balance between being too long and obscuring too much detail and flattening the image, versus being too short and looking very impractical.

It was still a fun process and I'm looking forward to share more it with you guys shortly, thank you all as always for your support!

Thank you as always for the nice words, I can' t promise I will be able to fulfill any requests, but feel free to just write what you think!

Thank you, in terms of technical steps, I almost always use a soft light layer to paint in local colors and then use color balance or selective color filter layers to find an overall color tone I like. This is the process depicted in step 3 to 4 above.

It's a lot of mixing and matching different simple things and seeing how they work together! Here I just combined some straw raincoat elements with a more contemporary tank top and shorts to create this look. Of course especially if drawing some element that's less familiar, I will use plenty of reference to have a good anchor point for my design. :)

Thank you! :)

Thank you, I find it quite an important step to do before an image can look complete!

We can't say it enough, but the work done on your backgrounds has improved considerably. The level of detail is impressive, but the real achievement is the rendering of rain and the blur effect related to the distance between the character and his environment. This is an added value that anchors your characters in the universe you have created. The colorimetry used here is perfectly adapted to your universe... This makes me want to propose you a little challenge, if you are open to this idea :) Anyway, congratulations again for your illustration and thanks for sharing !

Lovely piece yet again. I've observed some of your processes for quite a while and I'm very curious about how you transition your work from greyscale to color. How do you do it?

I'm always in awe of how you come up with the costume designs. Was there a lot of reference for clothing style ideas?

I really like how you show the thickness of the different elements of her outfit. It brings a lot.
